I am going to share some of my fears with you all in hopes that I am not the only one thinking his way. First and a big fear is that this will not work for me. Wow! I finally said that out loud... 2nd is I will regret it and have lots of pain..... I know what everyone says and that I am probably being silly but they are real concerns. I think I have a high tolerance for pain so not really scared of the surgery itself... I guess more of the outcome and my relationship with food. Is anyone on here from 0verland Park Ks? I would love a sleeve buddy:)

So I just found out this morning that my dr will be out of town and they rescheduled my surgery to the 20th. Im so lost and don't know what is going on. Is 9 days enough for a liquid diet?

Hi- you are totally not alone ginamaria! I was the same way. The closer it got, the more scared i was of losing everything that I know about coping (with food). It's totally normal! It didn't hit me hard til after and I cried a few times (this coming from a person who hasn't cried in 8 years). I'm expecting to cry some more and start learning how to forgive myself for being weak sometimes and making better choices from here on out. I want to remember this time of my life as the moment that I turned the corner from just existing to fully experiencing life.

Very best luck with your surgery!

Hi kbraun, you will be fine, there are a lot of people on 2 day liquids only. Don't worry all will be well.

Hi, Kbraun87. I can tell you that all surgeons are different with their pre-op diet requirements. I only had to do 2 days of liquids. Using logic, knowing that many people only have to do a couple of days, I can say I'm sure it's fine. However, the most important opinion is that of your surgeon. They know your surgery was moved up and were okay with the shortening of your liquid diet, and that's what matters. If you're still really concerned, call them and ask about it. From what I understand, the two main reasons for extended liquid diets are 1) because the less you weigh, the easier the surgery is, and 2) to shrink your liver as much as possible to also make the surgery easier. If those were the only two reasons, they you're more than likely okay, if they were doing it for an additional reason that I'm not aware of, then it's probably worth a check. Congrats on your big day approaching! I'm 5 days out and doing very well. :)

I cheated loads on Pre op I know people say don't but I still made sure I lost weight. The main thing I figured out was different doctors different opinions one thing they all agree on is to fast liquids 24 hours prior to surgery to allow the stomach to to be empty in time. Dieting also helps reduce your liver size. I figured out on my own that all these experts can't be wrong and quickly realised some are more careful than other

Obviously a longer Pre op diet is also to get us all use to the idea of eating differently too and get our body use to this. I was already use to lighterlife diets before so I knew I could do it with some cheats like the 2 shakes and a healthy meal I still lost plenty before surgery and I also did not go crazy.

You will be ok. You will feel bloated and uncomfortable after surgery but once you realise how quickly full you are going to be believe me these liquid diets become so easy.

Good luck from the UK

Thank you for that. I am on day 11 of my clear liquid diet and I cheated on Saturday. I all of a sudden panicked about not having a taco for two months. I obsessed about it and even dreamed about it! So I had a taco on Saturday. I have read about a million different pre-op diets. I have done the best that I can and I figure that's all I can do! So, thank you for making me feel a little better. :)

Surgery say is Valentine's Day! Excited and nervous and so ready!

Hi, Ginamaria. You're not alone. I am an extremely anxious person, and my fears were intense before surgery. Regarding your fear that the surgery will not work for you, I'm pretty sure any person who has done their research and is going into the surgery fully informed has that fear. I think it's a healthy fear, even. I had to re-word that fear in my head and say that I'm afraid I won't work this surgery. The sleeve is what it is. The surgeon will put it there, and a new fact about my body will be that my stomach is smaller. My brain is the same, though, and I will still need to be careful about what I put in it. With regard to the regret, ugh... I feel ya. That was probably my biggest fear going in. My second and third day post-op, this fell upon me with the grace and subtlety of an avalanche of lead pipes. I became tearful, and my brain started asking me, "what have I done?!" If this does happen to you, please know, it is normal, and it will pass. I think it just goes with the territory of major decisions, but it's just scarier when it has to do with your body. You've done the absolute best thing you can do with fear, and that is tell someone you're afraid. You're going to do great! Keep talking about it, breathe through it, and look for something positive to look forward to in addition to each fear. My best combatant to my fears has been browsing new clothes online. Yes, there is a risk with this surgery, as there is with every surgery, and most of us get scared that we'll be that 1% that experiences a complication. For me, this surgery was worth the minute risk, because without the surgery, there was a 100% chance of a multitude of other life-ruining health concerns. I'm more than happy to trade those risks in for better ones!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
