So Frustrated

Recommended Posts

Hello,

So I am currently in my 6 month diet classes in order to get the sleeve with United Healthcare in CA. I just found out that my dads insurance, which I am covered under till im 26, expires on Jan. 31st. I called my medical group which requires all of these steps and they said that they could not help me out and that these classes i am taking only count for their medical group not anyone else. I decided to change medical groups hoping that this other one does not require as much, but i cant get it till jan. 1st. I have thought about going to Mexicali to see Dr. Aceves and just pay for the surgery but i am not sure yet. if i do get my own insurance, then i have to pay my premium, plus my yearly max, plus my co pay for the surgery which pretty much eaquals surgery in Mexicali. I also thought about medi-cal (aka medicaid ) but then i would be starting all over again with finding a dr that would refer me. I already had trouble when i saw my first pcp and then had to search for a different pcp. I feel like i am running in place with this process and i am getting very discouraged. Anyone have tips on this or what i should do?

Now I had my surgery in Tijuana and had it booked in three weeks. The absolute best thing I could have done. So, in asking me, I say, if you can afford Mexico go, you will not regret it.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
