Hello everyone. This is my first time posting but have been reading the posts for a couple of days now. I am currently doing my protocol now (on my way to my endoscopy now) and am hoping to have my surgery in Jan. this is such a GREAT place and I have learned so much in just a short time. I know I probably sound crazy but I Ana nervous wreck right now. I'm trying to talk to myself that I am doing this for me and is one step closer to the new me. Any good vibes would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Good vibes here, it is a scary process but hopefully in the end you will be happier for the decision. There were so many times in the months working up to the surgery that I wanted to run away, hated all the medical tests...but finally they were over and all is well.

I understand and can relate to your fear. I went through it myself. My only regret is that I did not have the surgery years ago. Look at it this way, you will be gaining a longer, healthier life after surgery. Best of luck to you and I promise it is worth it.

I agree with you, I wish I hadn't waited so long! No regrets here.

I just finished with my nutritionist. I had to see one for 3 months. I didn't need to ask anything mine was great and had all the info I needed. Make sure you get some ideas on what types of food you can and can not eat and what you should be eating now. Basically you should be cutting sugars out and eating more Protein. Questions will come to you as you are talking to the nutritionist. How many times do you need to go?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
