How Soon Did You Return To Work After The Sleeve?

Recommended Posts

I am starting to really think the sleeve may be the best option for me instead of the lap band. Still researching like crazy of course. But I would really like to know how long you were out of work to recover? I don't have MANY personal days, so a big factor in me choosing this surgery is if I would be able to go back to a desk job after a week? If I had it done on a Friday, take the next week off and return to work on that next Monday, does that sound possible in your experience?

Also, was there an over night stay in the hospital for you or did you go home the same day? Thanks so much for any responses! Everyone here so far seems so informative and helpful!!! :) :)

I had a 2 night stay in the hospital. I don't have 'just' a desk job, it's running around all day so I took 4 weeks off of work. I probably could have gone back at 3 weeks, but I have plenty of vacation time saved up. Since you have a desk job I'd say that it's feasible to go back after 1 1/2 weeks as you were stating. I've seen many here who went back that soon. Best of luck in whatever decision you make.

HI...Yes its possible to go back after a week. I had surgery 11-20, was out of hospital on Thanksgiving and went to work yestrrday,no problem. I have a dedk job as well. Just an fyi...my surgery was too remove my lapband and convert to sleeve. I would NEVER recommrnd the lapband to anyone!!!

I felt totally normal after 3 weeks. If I had a desk job I probably could have handled going back to work after a week. It all depends on how well you recover. Everyone's recovery is so different. Please don't get the lap band. I have met several people who have had it done and none were successful. I'm not saying nobody is successful with the lap band, I just haven't met anyone who was. Plus just having that foreign thing in your body is just weird to me!

had surgery on 10/16 and was back to work on 10/24. I stayed overnight at the hospital. This has been a decent experience for me so all I can do is recommend it. Good luck with your decision.

I took two weeks because i could but honestly i could had gone back to work already. I chose not to because i work at a place we are constantly getting food and i thought it would be too hard on the liquids stage...i will start purees the day i return to work so will be fine. I also went from a band to a sleeve....wish id known about the sleeve 7 years ago except at that time i think it was part of a two part surgery and then they saw the sleeve part was sufficient. I hated the band...lost 70 gained 50 back...theyd fill my band id get sick, unfill it id gain weight. What a pain...one week out and already lovin the sleeve. Thats just my experience. Good Luck!

I had surgery on Monday the 19th, went home the next day, and went back to work the next Monday, the 26th. I'm a web designer so it's a total desk job but I've been making a point to go for walks twice a day for 10 minutes. I'm still only on clear liquids; tomorrow I go for my first post-op with the surgeon at which time I should be cleared to eat soft foods.

I too was worried that it would be hard to go back to work that soon but I've been really surprised--it's like I didn't even have surgery. In fact I have more energy than I did before the surgery, and absolutely no pain this week!

I highly recommend the VSG! I've already lost 12 lbs in 10 days. I'm sure that's mostly Fluid but I'm so excited to be on this journey, and amazed that I have no hunger! I've read that the lap band doesn't remove hunger like the sleeve does. So glad I chose the sleeve!

I was wondering the same thing, I am a mail carrier and I'm in and out of my truck all day I hoping to be back at work in a couple weeks especially during the liquid stage

I had my surgery the day after Thanksgiving (Friday), left the hospital Sunday, and was back to work Tuesday. While I felt a little worn out by the end of the day, I am glad I went back, sitting at home was just killing me with cravings. Best of luck! BTW, I had my lapband taken out and converted to sleeve.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
