How Do You Stop Hairloss/encourage Regrowth?

Recommended Posts

I am still pre-op, but you post-op folks have been a HUGE help to me...i have PCOS so my hair has suffered, but I really love my hair and really don't want to lose it. I know it's a small price to pay, but I guess I want to know this:

1. is hairloss inevitable?

2. does increasing Protein and Vitamins help at all?

3. Does it REALLY grow back?

i appreciate your honesty. thanks!

I was sleeved 8/21. Have always taken my Vitamins & Biotin, drank my Water, Protein shakes, & eaten lots of Protein. My hair started falling out at about 8 weeks and is now falling out in handfuls. Its actually a real pain in the a**. hair is everywhere. I got it cut in layers and blowdry to add 'fluff'. It's thin but not ugly. I plan to wear scarves or cute hats this winter if my scalp starts to show. And yes, it grows back.

Honestly, if this is the price I have to pay to be healthy, I don't mind. I've had family and friends lose hair from Chemo. Compared to that, this is a walk in the park. Try to embrace your Hair loss as shedding your layers. :-)

My hair also fell out. Increased my Protein intake, started taking Biotin supplements (5000mg), switched to a Sulfate free Shampoo. Once I noticed the Hair loss tapering and I had to get my roots dyed, I asked my stylist to use an ammonia free dye. And Yes, it does grow back. :)

Thank goodness, I was loosing hair prior to my surgery due to my blood pressure medicine. So I went and got my hair cut really low and I wear wigs during the day and let my hair breath at night. Waiting for it to grow back now. I'm officially at 3 weeks today

Hi Nursemom I have PCOS too. I am 11 days post op. My hair was a big concern although the Water, Protein and vitmins help I think it cannot be avoided. I have never heard of anyone going bald just from month 3 to moth 6 you lose a lot of hair. Starts to grow back somewhere around month 7 or 8 have not reached that stage yet. I heard at that time it is good to wash your hair every day.

With PCOS I have tried everything! Including going to a specilist for 2 years and Metformin, betya shots etc...Am keeping my fingers crossed this works have heard they have great sucess with PCOS patients.

Good Luck

JUlie

I was sleeved 7-2 and am still losing hair when I pull on it. I takes a fair amount of natural supplements, but none of tem are specifically for Hair loss. My Protein counts are very high on a daily basis. To me, it is not too big a deal to lose some hair. I have cut it shorter this last week. I asked the hair dresser if she thought it was a good thickness. She said it was average which is a change from always having super thick hair. My wife says she notices it is thinner. Still not a huge concern because it will grow back soon enough.

I'll keep this short. Hairloss is inevitable. The only thing you can help is the hair that doesn't fall out and prevent total loss.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
