It All Starts Today

Recommended Posts

I have my physician consult today. I'm looking forward to asking a ton of questions to put my mind at ease. I start their 3-month program and am looking at March for surgery. I talk myself into and out of this hourly. I think it's the thought of anesthesia and not waking up that bothers me. Or having something go wrong during surgery and waking up a vegetable. I've worked in a hospital for 23 years and all the "what ifs" are getting my imagination running wild. That and too many medical horror novels.... I have had surgery 3 times prior and don't remember being this worked up. I've never had issues with anesthesia and never been in severe pain when I've woken up. I don't know what's wrong with me.

I was in the same boat. Let me tell you as the day draws nearer it doesn't get any easier! I work as a medical coder and I read horror stories all day long. I just got to have faith it will all be okay. I am dwelling on the days after and my goals and Christmas so it doesn't give me time to worry about the worst.

I wish there was a way to not think about it but it's human nature.

Good luck to you and I hope all goes well for you. BTW I had toi do a 6 month diet it all depends on the insurance carrier.

I am currently 3 days out! Crazy!

thought of anesthesia - not waking up. Or having something go wrong during surgery

jac1970

hmmmm, who is that behind those foster grants eyesglasses?? B)

like you said "it all starts now"

3 month pre-diet, other steps in preparation for WLS - its wonderful

you are getting ready for that official 1rst day of your healthier, happier life with your new best friend, the sleeve!!

you are pro on having anesthesia - people still can be alittle nervous prior to any surgery

many people also have those doubts concerning the WLS - the fear of "never waking up" i can only imagine what that must feel like, concerned, scared about the anesthesia :o

Here are my 2 cents - thoughts

almost one year post op - WLS was the best thing i ever did

people do 2nd guess themselves,

I can tell you are a smart cookie ;)

go with your first wise decision to have the surgery

the "what ifs" ...... all surgeries have "possible" problems

you'll see posts on the board concerning problems during or after WLS - and they might stick out in your mind

most sleevers are great, no problems, and get happier and healthier by the day

talk about your concern/fears with your dr. - hopefully he can put your mind at ease

take care

good luck with WLS

Thank you. I know in my head this is the right thing to do. I don't want to end up at age 60 alone and dead of a heart attack on the side of a road like my dad. I'm getting an incisional hernia fixed at the same time from gall bladder surgery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
