Finally, Onederland!

I really started this journey 2 years ago, I set a goal that I would weigh under 200 by my 50th birthday. I weighed @265 at the time and hadn't changed that weight in years of trying. I worked hard, I ate right (I thought) and exercised as much as I could. I lost 10 lbs. I went to my Doc for help. She put me on Meridia. I lost another 20 lbs. But I never got under 200. After I came off the Meridia, I gained the weight back. Last summer when I started my Vertical Sleeve journey, I weighed 265 again. I thought I was destined to weigh that much forever. My diabetes was starting to go crazy and so was my blood pressure.

Since my surgery on Sept 5th, I have lost 66 lbs and I'm off my medications. I feel great and I have energy. Sometimes I forget that I had the surgery but after a few bites, I figure it out again.

Best of all, I now weigh 199!!!!! I haven't seen Onderland since high school.

I love my sleeve!!

Congratulations! I was sleeved in May of this year and am still trying to get to 199! I am 210 now and I don't think the scales are going to move ever again..:( Some people I know who were sleeved during the same month have lost 100 pounds or more. I guess I'm just a slow loser. I sure hope it picks up.

Way to go, Velena! 66 pounds is a tremendous loss -- you're obviously doing all the right stuff. And all this just since September. Wow!

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS!!! Setting a goal and then making it happen does not occur by accident. You are amazing.

Lisa...we all lose at different rates. You are not a slow loser. Remember, you have lost 75+ pounds forever. Give yourself a hand for all you have done. You will continue to lose, so don't give up or consider yourself flawed.

Celebrating both of your incredible success stories. Looking forward to watching you succeed.

I love my sleeve and have no regrets.

This is the only place I can share this and know that people will understand. I tried on size 14 jeans today at Target, and they fit! They looked good. I can't believe how small my legs look in them. I don't EVER remember wearing 14s, even in high school I wore 16s. This sleeve is amazing! Does anyone else have to fight the urge to go up to plus size strangers and share your surgical success story with them?

Yes mam! When I see a plus size person in public I just want to hug them and say I know how you feel and I know something that will work! It's really hard not to say something, when you have been as big as I have (334.9 lbs) 6 months ago and I'm now down 102 lbs, you want to shout it from the mountaintop how great this surgery is!

No way. That would be very rude and might make them feel bad. I know I would if someone did that to me when I was huge. Just saying!

I spoke to my sister in law about the surgery and her insurance approved her before mine. Sometimes it does help to share, but only with those you know. A stranger might find it offensive. Kind of like when the cashier at Walmart asked me when the baby was due and I had had a baby 8 months prior. Shameful I tell ya.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
