Out Of The Shadows With A Date

Recommended Posts

I have been lurking and reading everyones posts. I want to thank you all for unknowinglu encouraging and supporting me :) ! Today I got my date. Dec 5th! I really did not think it would be until late January. It has come as quite shock and I am scared all over again! So I am out of the shadows asking for support. My biggest fear... What if I do this and I fail again?

Hi Michelle,

My surgery is Dec. 3rd, and I feel the same way -- what if I fail? But we've done our homework, we've listened to what everybody has to say, we'll follow the doctor's and nutritionists's directons to the letter. So I think we're ready to get this surgery behind us!

That is amazing that you got a Dec. 5th date just as of today -- that must have really put your mind in a spin! My Dec. 3rd date was set over two months ago, and I am past ready.

Good luck next week -- I'll be thinking about you.

Welcome out from the shadows...congrats on your upcoming surgery date!

Listen...with so many failures before (isn't that why we all are here?) it is natural to think YOU are the problem. VSG is a tool to help you lose the weight. Yes, you can lose the weight if you follow the diet plan and adjust as needed for your body. Fears are normal.

Read up as much as you can, I like the success section of this site, picking up tips from others on how they lost the weight. Just remember not to compare yourself and notice that everyone loses differently.

Really excited for you both! Congratulations on a big step to a new you.

No regrets, I love my sleeve.

A flood of emotions is normal as you approach your date. Go with it and let yourself feel what you feel. I just got through my first major "food focused" holiday after surgery and I am so happy I did this. I was afraid I would miss food, but I enjoy eating so much more now.

Just remember a few things--

  • liquid diet sucks and you need to be nice to yourself during that time
  • Every day after surgery gets easier and easier
  • We are all here to support you!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
