Liquid Magnesium Not Working....?!

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I am scheduled for surgery at 7:30am. I have been waiting for this day for so long and now I can't believe it's here! I'm super nervous

Anyway, I took the liquid magnesium this afternoon around 12pm. It has been 6 hours and I still have yet to use the bathroom. The only symptom I've had is nausea but that's it! Is this not working? What happens if I don't "go?"

Has anyone experienced this?

P.S. The taste of the magnesium actually wasn't too bad. I have a very weak stomach and a horrible gag reflex but I was able to get the full bottle down with no problem. It just tasted like a super salty cherry 7up....totally tolerable B)

My doctor's office closed and they won't be open again until after my surgery....I guess I have no choice but to wait until tomorrow morning and see what they say before surgery....

My surgery is also tomorrow morning. I drank my bottle as well and not a lot of results until i started drinking more Water and broth. I've pretty much been on a clear liquid diet for the past 14 days so not much in my stomach anyway!

Good luck with your surgery tomorrow!!

So yours kicked in when you started drinking more? I'm drinking some broth and Water right now....I'm hoping this will help, it would suck if this decided to kick in right before surgery LOL

I know my doctor did not require any type of bowel cleanse as they are not working with your intestines. I think you should be fine either way. Good Luck!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
