dexter 205 Posted November 26, 2012 I was just at my gynecologist's office for and unrelated reason. I did mention that I can't have big horse pills anymore. Then he said "you can still take pills. Just put them in your vagina." I hope your eyes were as wide as mine were! So, there you go. Got a big pill to take? Stick it in your vagina. (I wish I could make this stuff up!) BKMama 179 Posted November 26, 2012 I'm sorry but that makes no sense at all. How will the contents of the pill absorb? And where? Absorption of nutrients, etc does not occur in the vagina, cervix, or uterus. The cervix will stop anything from randomly getting into the uterus. Sorry...sounds like your doc wants to see you more because that sounds like a problem in the making.
pieganjane 26 Posted November 26, 2012 OMG...That is te worst advice ever..last I knew the vagina does not flow into the stomach or vagina...was he or she kidding? Have you checked the doc's credentials?
BKMama 179 Posted November 26, 2012 You're right. I remember high school health class the teacher said the vagina is a cul se sac while the anus is an interstate for reasons not to put foreign objects into your anus. LOL
dexter 205 Posted November 26, 2012 He's got excellent credentials. I'm not saying I'm going to run to the medicine cabinet to try this- but, it would get absorbed into the blood stream there. That's how the nuva ring works. I used to work with drug addicts and some took their drugs through their bum. Suppositories work in the same way. The vagina is just a different entrance point I guess. The mechanics of it makes sense in a way. 1 Skinnypie reacted to this
elizabethowen79 34 Posted November 26, 2012 The vagina is a mucous membrane, just like the digestive system. The medications can be absorbed through the walls of the vagina into the bloodstream, rather than through the digestive system. The vagina is very vascular so it can be an effective way to absorb some medications. That being said, it's not ok to put just any or all meds there! It should only be used as a last resort or for medications specifically made to go there. Please please talk to your pharmacist before doing this, some medications cannot be absorbed that way. pieganjane 26 Posted November 26, 2012 The Nuva ring etc can be used vaginally because hormones are easily absorbed by the vagina. I should have asked what your horse pills are? Assuming they are not BC pills or hormones, inserting them vaginally can 1) not absorb enough of the med 2) cause terrible irritation. Meds are mostly used sublingually (under the tongue) by injection or by suppository..but hey just my opinion, it's your vagina so you decide...
