Recommended Posts

Hi All.. For those of you who are now runners, how long after surgery were you able to start running? How long did it take you all to run a 5k? I will be sleeved on 12/3 and I have always wanted to be a runner. I cant wait to run my first 5k. Im 5'1" & 255..And ready for my new life!!

I was sleeved 10/2 and I just recently started jogging. What I've learned throughout the years is to start SLOW. When you first start to get back into running, you will more than likely jog as slow as you walk. Speed will come eventually. Once you are able to walk 2 miles and that starts to become easy then try jogging off and on. I can jog a 1/2 mile and then after that I walk the rest of the 2 miles. We also have tons of hills here so this tires me out quicker, oh and living at 6000+ ft elevation doesn't help either lol. Also check out "couch to 5K". It's a very good program for those who are couch potatoes and want to become runners or those who are looking for a more structure program. Good Luck :)

I was 6 or 7 weeks when I attempted running (if u could call it that). I started with just trying to run for 1 minute without stopping. I was sleeved march 12th and ran my first 5k on July 3 and was able to jog the entire time. I can now run 17 hilly miles. I'm going to run a marathon in March. I love running! Couch to 5k/10k is a GREAT program.

Good luck with ur running adventures!

I'm starting C25K this Saturday! I'm 3 months post op. I literally have dreams of running like the wind. It's time to make those dreams a reality. I've tried before, but gave up after only a week or two. Gotta do it this time!

U can do it!!! I was the same way. I remember being inspired by another user on this forum (fern). :) she spoke about running half marathons and her running experience. I dreamed of doing a half. I messaged her and she gave me so much encouragement. So, I started signing up for events- 5ks and then 10ks and then halfs!! Anything is possible just be careful about increasing ur mileage to quickly. And don't forget to stretch. Happy running. ;)

I highly recommend zombie run. Not only does it help you train slowly up to 5k but is exhilarating as well haha

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
