Would U Do It With Bmi Of 38?

Recommended Posts

When I first started looking- I was sitting at a 39.9 BMI. I actually found out I was pregnant while at the surgeons office (they ran lab work and bam). I held off 2 years- and trust me- I wouldn't change my little dude for the world- but in almost 3 years I wound up with a 50 BMI. All because of my stubbornness. I would do it in a second.

BMI of 33 and I did it so I would never see a higher BMI. Just losing 20 lbs made a world of difference on my joints that I didn't even know I had an issue. I also sleep peacefully and never knew I had a problem until it wasn't there.

ABSOLUTELY do it!

I did it almost a month ago with a bmi of 32. I had co-morbidities also - diabetes, high cholesterol, sleep apnea. I've only lost about 12 lbs (they told me my weight loss would be slow b/c I had less to lose) but my diabetes is GONE, sugar levels completely normal without meds. Even with the minimal weight loss, I feel so much better, so much easier to get around, especially exercising, and my BMI is now 29.5 (yay, "merely" overweight!) To my mind there is no question that surgery is the right thing if you cannot do it by yourself - and let's face it, if you are here you are having problems doing it, as do/did the rest of us.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
