Pre-Pre Op Diet?!

Recommended Posts

When I met with my NUT in October, she told me that the insurance company wants me to lose a 'significant' amount of weight before they will approve. Ahem. If I were able to lose a SIGNIFICANT amount of weight, I would not be in this predicament. I see my NUT on Tuesday and, well, I'm a big, fat (no pun intended) failure! I've had my ups and downs the last month. I definitely learned that I had some terrible eating patterns when I thought I was eating 'healthy'. I strived to make changes, but it's two steps forward and one step back. These eating habits are so ingrained. Anyway, I just focused on eating less....tracking calories, which is huge for me, but I just realized that I was supposed to be following the same type of eating plan I will be on post op (after the purée and soft foods). I'm so worried that my messing up is going to disqualify me. And don't get me started on Thanksgiving!!

I went into this knowing in my mind that VSG is not a cure. I know that it's not. I feel like my effort last month tells a different story. I have one more month under the NUTs guidance to make my insurance happy; one more month to show them I can do this; that I want to do this. But what if I still don't lose anything? I've been on so many diets the last couple of years and have nothing to show for it.

Anyone out there have to dazzle their insurance company? How did you do it?

Well, I don't think its that your insurance company wants you to lose a certain amount of weight before they decide if they will cover your surgery or not; i think its more that they want to see if you can stick to a program and how a structured program works for you. I would definately try not to gain any weight though. I was fortunate enough not to have that requirement, I did have to provide one documented weight per year for the past five years though. good luck....

Thank you for your reply. I had all of my questions ready for the dietician and she really helped clear things up. My particular insurance just doesn't want to see me gain. Anyway, the meeting was so helpful and I feel a lo better about it all.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
