Hey, I know someone else has asked about this, I just could'nt find the thread, so I will ask again....

How long is the "honeymoon period"?? Some have told me the first 6 months, while others have told me the first year. What have you been told??

It's different for everyone. Some start slowing down around 6 months and others it's not until 18 months!

I don't know how long it is either, I am at 3 months and just try by best so As much can come off before my body slows down. I hear 6-8 months, then I hear a year so who knows? Not me :-)

You'll find that some people think it's a definite time period, bit it's not. It varies per person.

I was told 6 months to a year. I have a friend who had her surgery in Feb and she had been losing big the first six months, 3-5 pounds per week. I on the other hand have been doing anywhere from 1-3 pounds per week. My official 6 months will be Dec 15th but 24 weeks is next Friday. I think it depends on the person. I know I can eat more now than I could 5 months ago. This may have something to do with it. Sometimes I think I am more hungry than I was back then.

I'm 18 months postop and my honeymoon stage ended around 6-8 months.. I lost 80 pounds in 6 months then the next six months lost 30 pounds.. I'm still not at goal and have been struggling alot with the last 20 pounds.. Even had a gain due to a 6 week dose of prednisone and stress from my wedding. But getting back on track and looking to the end reward of GOAL!!! Stating positive!!

Oh, ok...well, I was told by my NUT to make the most of this first year, and I will be 6 months post op on December 11th...

I've lost 66 pounds since surgery, 81 all together....I'm hoping I can lose the next half of my weight by my birthday, June of next year....it would be an amazing 35th birthday present!!

But I read an article today that stated that RNY patients have 1 year to 18 months, but VSG patients may have a shorter period of time because there wasn't any re-routing of the intestines....which lead me to this question...

I pray I still have another 6 months to lose big....I've been working my tail off the last 5 months!

I personally think its how we use this tool. I have a co-worker who had rny who is 2 years out and is still trying to lose but doesn't seem to be moving much. She isnt working out though. If you are working hard you will see results. I turned 35 in September although I am not at goal yet. Felt good to be on my way. Good luck PEvette! We can do it!

I wonder if it slows down for those who lose rapidly. I consider myself a slow loser and sure hope it doesn't get any slower than this.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
