5 Weeks Out And Had 5 Almonds... So Good.

Recommended Posts

I have an uber strict doctor... Only allowed Protein Shakes, broth, eggs and fish until 7 weeks... Today I splurged on a craving and had five well chewed almonds... My stomach accepted them happily! What a relief... I thought it would be ok as I read so many posts from others eating a huge variety only two weeks out... My doc is a real hard ass...

I love the wasabi/soy sauce 100 calorie almond packets. They're tasty when I want a treat.

My doctor is not too strict after one month except he said no nuts, seeds or popcorn for 6 month. But I suppose of you chew it enough, like almond butter it will be ok. Just be really careful. My nutritionist said that a seed, like a poppy seed or a sesame seed can lodge in the seam and can work it's way through and you could get a leak.

My nut and dr approved nuts of all kinds after 6 weeks. They are a great source of Protein. As long as you chewed really well you will be fine.

My doc is pretty reasonable, too, but no nuts for 6 months! I don't really care for them anyway, so no big loss, but I can't have shellfish for 6 months and I'm dying over that.

Why no shellfish?

That's awesome! I want some cashews so bad, but I was told no nuts or popcorn either until 6 months out, maybe I'll experiment with my Ninja and try to make some cashew butter, cause I can eat Peanut Butter. The same thing over and over gets boring :)

*edit* Why no shellfish? Also what is considered shellfish, lobster and crab? I think my nutritional book says the same thing no shellfish, but then it also says I can eat lobster and crab.

I don't know and it's really a bummer! I'm going to ask my Nut tomorrow. I'd LOVE some shrimp, plus I live in S. Louisiana and we eat A LOT of seafood. lol

Weird... I am not allowed shrimp, but I AM allowed crab and lobster, so its not a shellfish thing... I have heard that the shrimp is because some people overcook shrimp til its rubbery?

I was allowed shrimp, I ate a LOT of shrimp when I was in the soft food stage because chicken just would get stuck all the time and I could eat about 3 jumbo shrimp with no problems, the medium sized about 4. I would make shrimp scampi or just boil them a little with some old bay seasoning and have a little dab of cocktail sauce on the side and chew really well.

I'm tempted to just eat them anyway bc I can't find any reason not to anywhere!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
