Fiddleman 4,376 Posted November 24, 2012 My wife and I are considering going on an all-inclusive vacation to Mexico where basically eating is buffet style. I am a little hesitant to take this vacation because I know my eating patterns now don't jive very well with this type of eating. I feel like I would be wasting money by going because my eating would be fairly limited. Also remembering the last time I took a similar trip on my honeymoon about 12 years ago when my weight issues really started to climb and get out of control. Basically, we need to use it soon because it is a promotional trip we bought a year or two ago, before I even considered this surgery. If we don't use it soon we will be out a good chunk of change. I want to go primarily for relaxation and force myself to recharge. I know I can count on my VST friends for some advice. Thanks!
Eat That Frog 53 Posted November 24, 2012 I just got back from a 7 day cruise and was able to keep my eating under control and actually lost 1 pound. By day 3 though, my stomach started protesting, I assume it was because of the amount of rich food. Thankfully, I took a box of Protein Bars with me and at that point had 1 a day for Breakfast or lunch and that helped. I avoided bread and had mostly Protein, and if there was something "bad" that looked good I had 1 or 2 bites of it. I didn't feel deprived and enjoyed myself. 1 Fiddleman reacted to this
Threetimesacharm 1,400 Posted November 24, 2012 As an avid traveller, I agree that you should go. I am sure that you feel great and while on vacation that feeling only increases. Try to stick with your normal eating patterns: because there is such a huge selection you can be choosy about what you eat. Pre sleeve I could go on vacation and lose 5 pounds, just by being choosy, small portions and lots of activity. Go and have a fabulous time!! Will be thinking of you. 1 Fiddleman reacted to this

doxieville 799 Posted November 24, 2012 GO!!!!!! The sleeve lifestyle is now your new way of living. You need to learn to adapt to all situations. Go, enjoy yourself. Take plenty of Protein powder & some Protein Bars if you feel that you can't control yourself for all meals. How much weight have you lost since you traveled last? I go to Vegas in February (anyone want to meet up?) and am excited about fitting in the airplane seat!! food will be all around me, but I will be in charge, not the food!! Enjoy!! 1 Butterthebean reacted to this

It will help keep you on track. 1 Fiddleman reacted to this
Butterthebean 8,146 Posted November 24, 2012 I say go and have fun. Take some Protein Powder and a shaker bottle. You may not eat perfectly for those few days, but you won't be able to gorge yourself. Then come home and resume your current eating life. 1 Fiddleman reacted to this
Butterthebean 8,146 Posted November 24, 2012 I also agree, MFP is the best way to keep yourself honest. Put your food in BEFORE you eat it. I've done that and once I saw the official damage, I've realized I didn't really need that particular chunk of chocolate cake. 1 Fiddleman reacted to this
ShannonK 266 Posted November 24, 2012 Go and have fun...eat 3 meals a day, focus on your Protein, and do things you didn't/wouldn't/couldn't before!! I just got back from a camping trip where I canoed and kayaked and went on a cave tour....all things I wouldn't have done - or wouldn't have enjoyed before!! Have a great time! 1 Fiddleman reacted to this

Thanks everyone for your insights. I appreciate it as always. Have a great day!
LouiseC 1,031 Posted November 24, 2012 I have just got back from a two week vacation in Australia. I just went with the flow and decided to enjoy myself and not spend time worrying about weight. I didn't eat more than normal, though the food was different and included more carbs than I usually consume. I drank alcohol every day which is not the norm. Despite this, I lost a kilo over the two weeks. I am back on MFP and back in my usual routine and I think the break from my routine was a good thing.

SexySlim 107 Posted November 24, 2012 Definitely go! I went to an all inclusive in the Dominican Republic last month. I was able to eat small portions of everything I wanted and I drank alcohol. I couldn't finish a whole drink but it was all inclusive and I was going to eat and drink what I wanted! I actually came back home 2 lbs lighter! Enjoy your vacation! 1 Fiddleman reacted to this
