So, My Critical Mother.....

Recommended Posts

I totally understand. I did not tell my dad until the day before surgery. Mainly I didn't want to worry him since his sister died after having WLS. The day after surgery I woke up (I was in ICU) and he was at my bedside crying. It was horrible. He didn't understand why I would do it and risk my life when I have two beautiful kids. So I explained that that's why I had the surgery and if course he brought up why I couldn't do it on my own. Being that he struggles with his weight, is diabetic, and has htn, my response was..."how's that working for you dad?!?" I think he got my point but I'm 5 wks post op and we haven't discussed weightloss or anything revolving progress or the surgery since. My step brother who is as ripped and healthy as they come made a bet with my 13 yr old that I won't lose weight. And, my mom who is a nutritionist is completely supportive. Go figure! Instead if fighting with them about it I will just prove them wrong in April when I see them again. I'm so glad I no longer live within miles. I feel for you I know how hurtful it is to have the ones you love turn their back on your success. Your still awesome no matter what and you made the right decision by making YOUR life healthier!

Thank you ALL for sharing such personal stories. It really truly helps knowing that I'm not alone. It is hard not getting approval or congrats from someone who I feel should be the most supportive person in my life. Thank you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
