ok, here is another round of questions for those already sleeved with Garcia and Mi hospital. Sorry, I am trying to pack and getting nervous/excited, so all these things are coming to my mind!!

In the hospital, for surgery you are wearing just a gown? At what point can you put on your own gown, robe, sports bra, etc. I dont want to be walking laps with "all that" hanging out I have soft fuzzy socks with skid proof backing for walking.

I also got a pair of ear plugs and a eye mask. I heard the hospitals are a little noisy. Did you find that?

Sorry for the questions, but when you know others have gone before you, you can't help but be curious. Any other tips or helpful info would be appreciated!!! :wub:

I wish I had known to take an eye mask because they kept the lights on & there is a glass "window" over the door so the hallway lights shone in. Also, the ear plugs weren't enough for me - the night nurses were extremely loud & cutting up, etc. That was the only part that really bothered me for some reason. I couldn't sleep & guess made me irritable. lol. Plus I sleep with a huge floor fan & I had forgotten to bring my little noise machine with me on the trip. I just brought a robe with me & had my sandals. Make sure you bring some Dial soap & Neosporin. They had us take a ahower everyday (thank goodness) & I used my own Dial & Neosporin & had no issues. A girl there with me didn't bring any of that & she had an infection in one of her incisions by the end of the week. She couldn't find a store that sold neosporin which I thought was odd. She is a nurse so you would think she would have been the first person to bring that with her.

I actually used the hospital gown the whole time I was there and just put on loose pants underneath to help hold the drain.

 

I couldn't really sleep while I was there because of the pain meds (made me sick) so I had the tv on the whole time. It was still dark enough for me, but I'm not one that falls asleep in total darkness.

 

I agree to bring neosporen I found u would need it while back at the hotel. While in the hospital after the showers the nurses change the bandages and clean u up ..and oh my goodness the antiseptic spray they use does its job but to me it was stinky lol.

 

I also shared the room with my sister ( she came with me as my support person) so instead of walking laps around the floor I just walked in my room, I felt more comfortable that way and I was able to watch tv while doing so .

Oh and one more thing, it may be a good idea to keep your compression stockings for the plane ride home. My flight was 5 1/2 hrs and it put my mind a little more at ease wearing them since you can't really walk laps on a plane

Take extra bandages as they don't give you many when you go back to the hospital, don't forget the gas x, it will help you a lot! I didn't care much for the broth at the hotel so might want to take some packets of broth. If j think if anything else ill let you know.

Definitely take extra bandages. I had to send my then boyfriend to the store to get extra. The broth at the hotel was horrible to me so yes bring something. There is an Applebees a block or 2 away by the Walmart & I went there & ate the broth out of the tortilla Soup. I was so starving by then & it was the best.

I have the Unjury chicken broth so I was gonna bring that as a back up, plus it's got the Protein, but good to know there are other alternatives!

One thing I found helpful was an extention cord for my phone and lap top. Definately bring your own broth or bouillon cubes. Milly gave me a care package at the hospital with ear plugs in it, which helped with the noisy nurses station outside my door.

It all depends how big of a stomach your doctor makes. A friend of mine had sleeve on nov 5 and already lost 29 pounds.

I wish had them there but you know they are like a patch with gauze in the middle and adhesive around the edges, I think 3m make them! But otherwise gauze and tape will work.

I was sleeved by Dr. Garcia on Oct. 30th. As of yesterday, 11/27, I am down 29lbs! I am VERY happy with my results! Dr. Garcia and his staff were wonderful to me. Not sure if it was a "normal" time for me at the hospital, but day one of surgery there was only 1 other patient on the floor and she left the next morning. Then I was there all by myself with my husband for the next day. The hospital was very quiet. Samuel, our driver, on the way back to the airport said that the next day he was picking up 5 more patients... so I'm sure the hospital floor is going to MUCH busier.

An eye mask is a GREAT idea!! They do give you a little care package with mouth swabs, ear plugs and chapstick when you arrive. When I sent to the hotel after surgery, they give you another care package with all your medicaitons, gauze, tape, more mouth swabs, Water, gatorade and an instructions folder for post-op.

Yes, bring neosporin! They will ask you to shower everyday and clean the incision sites. I tired the GasX strips and I can't honestly say they helped me at all... thankfully I had my husband around and he patted me on the back like a baby... LOL!! The first day was the worst with gas pains, then by day 2 it was pretty much gone.

I just wore the hospital gown they gave me for my stay there. They give you two, one for the front and one for the back.

I was really worried about them taking out the drain, but to my delight it did NOT hurt at all!!! They have you take a deep breath and then they pull it out. It felt very weird, but not painful at all. Then they remove the staples from your incisions... I thought that might hurt too, but it did NOT as well. All in all, it was a pretty PAIN FREE experience, except of course the gas and just general aches from surgery.

Samuel the driver that picks you up is a VERY NICE GUY!!!

When did you start your pre- diet ?

Is there anything else you would suggest for those using Dr. Garcia?
