Kidney Stone/uti In Er Today

Recommended Posts

Woke up at 6:00 am and tried to ride it out but the pain increased to being intolerable. I was vomiting due to the pain at least eight times prior and at the hospital and I never get sick that way. There was nothing in my stomach so that wasn't as bad as it could've been. I haven't had a kidney stone episode in 6 or 7 years.

When the CAT scan confirmed the stone and urine results indicated how dehydrated I was, the nurse said I had been that way for awhile due to not getting enough fluids. I'm two months post op. Let this be a lesson to me. :(

Spent my Thanksgiving in bed sleeping on prescriptions. And my thank you for this holiday is toradol taking me out of such pain, and a huge reminder to increase my fluids.

BLESS YOUR HEART!!!! Been there, a couple times this year. My experience was similar, minus the vomiting. But, I was miserable with pain. The ER doc gave me a shot of demerol every 30 minutes, and phentermine too. I came home on Percocets, ad slept for 3 days. A couple months later, while we were on vacation, I got sick with the stones again, on top of that, I was impacted! TERRIBLE day! We had to leave Animal Kingdom early, so I could go home and go to bed. Make sure you get your daily intake of water...it is so important! Try your best to pass those stones, and take it easy! Sending prayers!!

Thank you both!!!

I was impacted two weeks post op and can't imagine the pain you must have gone through with the combination of both kidney stones and that!!! You must have been miserable!

I never vomit and to be honest, before going to the hospital, the only relief my body got, if it could be said, was attempting to pee or when I got sick. I think it was because of my body using pressure in other areas which somewhat relieved the pain. If that makes sense.

I don't have a UTI very often and don't typically have the symptoms so I feel for you having that!!

Sad as its been to be in bed today, Ive caught up on rest (I work two jobs) and am sooo relieved to be out of pain and will be drinking more!

Im so sorry you had to go thru kidney stone pain. I had my first kidney stone 11/8 and it was the worst pain Ive ever experienced in my life. Im preop (surgery date Dec 5) so Im going to be obsessive about getting my Water in to try to minimize getting another one. Ive never felt pain like that in my whole life.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
