jsi1261 4 Posted November 23, 2012 Hey all, today marks one week out from my surgery. I had been feeling quite well, but today, I woke up with severe muscle pain on my left side where my drain is. It has been rough all day and I've had to take my pain med every 4 hours. I also have fibromyalgia, so I don't know if that is what is effecting me today. No fever or anything, but the pain is really bad. Any suggestions? I haven't called my doctor because it is Thanksgiving.
doxieville 799 Posted November 23, 2012 Is it warm around your drain? Any weird colors? Red streaks? It could be a pulled muscle. Sutures are attached to the muscle walls and until they dissolve they can tug and pull and really hurt. But I don't like that it's close to your drain. If i were in your shoes I'd call the doctor. I really would. The last thing you need is an infection from your drain.
jsi1261 4 Posted November 23, 2012 Thanks, Doxie!! By the way, I LOVE dachshunds too. The pain isn't right at my drain, but between the drain and main incision. It does feel like a pulled muscle, but I don't know how that would have happened. I've had an infection from a surgery in 2001, so I'm being very cautious with that. No fever, but if I get the slightest, I'm definitely calling the doctor or just going to the ER. Thanks for your response. Hopefully, I'll be better in a couple of days. doxieville 799 Posted November 23, 2012 It could have happened while you were asleep. If you've had an infection then you know what to look for. The pulled muscle does really hurt. Try light massage and warm compresses. That should help.
