Hey all, today marks one week out from my surgery. I had been feeling quite well, but today, I woke up with severe muscle pain on my left side where my drain is. It has been rough all day and I've had to take my pain med every 4 hours. I also have fibromyalgia, so I don't know if that is what is effecting me today. No fever or anything, but the pain is really bad. Any suggestions? I haven't called my doctor because it is Thanksgiving.

Is it warm around your drain? Any weird colors? Red streaks? It could be a pulled muscle. Sutures are attached to the muscle walls and until they dissolve they can tug and pull and really hurt. But I don't like that it's close to your drain. If i were in your shoes I'd call the doctor. I really would. The last thing you need is an infection from your drain.

Thanks, Doxie!! By the way, I LOVE dachshunds too. The pain isn't right at my drain, but between the drain and main incision. It does feel like a pulled muscle, but I don't know how that would have happened. I've had an infection from a surgery in 2001, so I'm being very cautious with that. No fever, but if I get the slightest, I'm definitely calling the doctor or just going to the ER. Thanks for your response. Hopefully, I'll be better in a couple of days.

It could have happened while you were asleep. If you've had an infection then you know what to look for. The pulled muscle does really hurt. Try light massage and warm compresses. That should help.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
