I'm so thankful for having this app and my Friday night Bariatric surgery classes. If I didn't have these places to vent I'd go nuts!!

My husband isn't supportive of my choice to have surgery and my parents aren't either. I'm pretty much alone in my journey. I've decided not to tell them my surgery day is a week from today. I'm supper excited about it, but my husband trying to convince me not to do it just brings me down. We always end up in a fight and this time he said he doesn't want me to EVER mention the surgery again! Total ass, but whatever. He doesn't know what it is to struggle with weight your entire life!! I have 3 kids and I'm trying my best so that they won't have to go through what I went through!

Ok feeling a little better. :}

You know that's one of the things that scared me the MOST about this surgery. :/ Being thin, gaining confidence, and finally stop putting up with his crap. I mean don't get me wrong.. He's a good guy, but sometimes he can be a bit too much. I have 3 kids with him.. I can't/ shouldn't just up and leave. Lol

What if you die? Or have complications from the surgery? Sheesh this is no way to go into this at all. If you care for your family at all you should tell them you are going in for a life threatening surgery for gads sake! If they don't support you now, why on earth would they if you do this?

Wow! Lol

Well as you read.. My husbands choice is to NOT know. So there's that and as for my parents, all they'll be giving me on that day with be stressful vibes so I rather not put them or myself through that. Millions of people have this surgery and come out of it ALIVE so if I'm ment to die on the table I was just ment to die. No one can ever prepare for that. But thanks for your consern. Sooooo helpful!

That was a little rude. She made it her choice to do it that way.

      Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
      What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
