Recommended Posts

post-39433-13838396877153_thumb.png

Ive started prepping for pre and post op, especially the liquid phases. it's been fun trying to determine what I need to start out with. I know I'll need more on the food side of the table but I figure ill get that together before I leave.

Surgery is one month from today in Mexico!

What's that pitcher looking thing and the coffee things?

I ended up planning too much for after surgery before surgery >.> I have a TON of stuff in my cabinets that I never even touched because there was a lot I could no longer tolerate after getting sleeved. One of those things was baby food (which is vile and if I ever have a kid they're never having any because I wouldn't inflict baby food on anyone) which, thankfully I have a coworker with a baby so I'm going to give all that to her :D

The pitcher is an electric kettle (like a hotpot) the Mr coffee thing are those coffee cup warmers. I am quite sure I won't feel like running up and down the stairs after surgery so I'll have things upstairs to make life easy. I have a microwave up here and with the electric kettle I'll be able to make hot Water for powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury or tea or whatever.

My bestie is 9 months out and gave me a good tip to get the Mr Coffee cup warmers because it will take so long to drink a cup of Soup that it will get cold and Unjury does not reheat well... it clumps. As well, I hate cold food and don't want to run back and forth to warm up anything so I figure the cup warmer will come in handy. I got one for home and one for work.

Wow, what is easy wrap in front? My surgery is in a week and I've got Protein, broths, protein bullets, and sf popsicles. Man looks like I might need to get on the ball :)

Protein powder - check

Protein bullets - check

Baby bowels and spoons - check

Bullet blender - check

Soup broth, Isopure, crystal light, popcycles - check

Comfy clothes and slippers - check

Vitamins ( liquid) - check

Biotin, collegen powder, nioxin Shampoo, firming lotion - check ( started this now, as I want my hair and skin to have all the help it can)

Now.. can put the cup warmer on the list after this weekend ( thanks for the great idea )

I know I still have lots to get still, I agree pre-op this is all I think about, really trying not to boar my friends and family with my constant talk and excitement for a new start on life. My day is Jan 2nd, less than 45 days.

I need to get on the good foot! I'm such a procrastinator. I have not started my shopping list. I am however taking notes for later!

I read here that a binder was a great thing to have, as well as a heating pad. Nice support for your abs, especially with sitting up and laying down. I want to get some of those big heating pads people buy for back or neck pain. The heating pad, I hear, is great to keep your muscles from tightening up? I thought I got one but I haven't seen it show up yet so.. ? Lol.

Oh I am already there. I start every vsg comment with [ boring conversation ],Thankfully my bestie wants to talk about it ALL THE TIME and my mother had RNY a long while ago so I have two experts in my life, as well as a separate community of people who've had the surgery.

My friends who have no idea about anything WLS related are fascinated!

I heard the protein bullets were really sweet so I decided to try ONE post surgery and see if I could stand it. I don't like super sweet things NOW so heaven knows how I'll feel after the surgery. I also couldn't bring myself to buy small bows and spoons. We'll see if i think it would help after surgery.

Bestie has a cabinet full of stuff she didn't like post surgery so I don't want to go through that. I'll keep it simple and see what I feel like being adventurous about once Jelly (I've named my sleeve) makes her appearance.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
