i had revision surgery from the lapband to the sleeve in October. when i found out my lapband slipped, i was so afraid of gaining the 70+ pounds back so i started researching the sleeve. i had to have all liquid removed from my band so my stomach was "normal" and i was able to eat whatever i wanted. i decided to gain 20 pounds before my revision surgery so i'd have a buffer of weight to lose after surgery during the liquid food stage. i didn't want to go in to surgery at my goal weight and then lose more weight.

i weighed 147 pounds the day of my sleeve surgery. today, almost 6 weeks later, i weigh 137... so i've only lost 10 pounds. i would like to lose the other 10 pounds i gained "on purpose" but i'm okay just maintaining too.

LOL I'm a bit OCD when it comes to Christmas. I want to see a tree from every window in the house when I drive by heh heh I tried to convince DH we need a couple more but he seemed to think that was nuts :P

If you have bcbs they require that you have been overweight for 3 years...

BCBS has thousands of policies all with variations depending on the employer, the plan and the state. A requirement of five years is not uncommon.

Tacroom-

I am exactly the same stats as you. 177 weight and I want to weigh exactly what you do now maybe 10 pounds less. I have pre-diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesteral. I have watched my mom suffer with heart disease since she was 49 and at 40 with three kids to take care I don't want to go down that road. I am getting sleeved on 12/17 and can't wait. Good luck to all!

33 BMI prior to VSG surgery and I too had no comorbidities. But, did I want to wait for my health to start to fail which was sure to happen? My knees already were sore and exercise did not come easily. So, I was in a downward spiral and decided to stop and reset.

So with a "measly" 60 lbs why should you do this? Can you do it on your own without surgical intervention? If yes, do it. But I suspect you are like most of us who can't do this without help. I needed VSG to have victory over my weight.

Where will I be in five years? I hope just as I am today. VSG is only new in the fact as it being used for WLS. Taking out part of the stomach has been done for years without serious long term effects. As long as you can take your supplements for life and eat healthy, you should be good to go.

I love my sleeve and have no regrets.

I am scheduled for surgery on Dec. 13, 2012. I was wondering if I could get some input from past sleevers that have had the VSG with a bmi under 35. I wonder if this is such a drastic measure just to loose about 60lbs. I don't have any diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. Im just tired of being overweight. Of course, I don't want to get too thin either. I like having my curves. I am also getting pretty nervous about this surgery. I ask myself, should I really do this? I also can't find any sleevers past 5 yrs postop. How will I be at 70yrs old. (im 40 right now).

OMG - sched for surg 12/26 and feel the exact same way... wondering if you went through with it - what you felt like - how you feel today - etc... And yes, I am soooooo with you on the "when I'm 70's" because I have every intention of wanting to live life that long and then some... my family lives long and well - my gparents still travel... I don't want to do more harm than good - I just want to be happy with my body while doing it... BMI 33

I had it done on dec 13th. I feel pretty good today. Im just doing my best to get my liquids in. I felt weak this morning but felt better after I drank my Protein. So far, uhm, yeah, I regret it. When my family eats, im drinking my stupid chicken broth. Then again, im only 4 days postop. I love food and im starting to get frustrated bc I cant have real food. I reassure myself by reminding myself i can eat normal and whatever I want just smaller portions but just not right now. I get on this forum and read posts that are about 2-3months postop and get encouraged. I am embarrassed that im starting to get frustrated being only 4dys out. Oh well, cant change it now, gotta move forward, but the way I feel right now, I would rather not have done this. Going vegan sounds more appealing. Then again, how long would that last?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
