Well I'm 5 weeks out and have been cleared to eat anything really. My problem is when I try to eat anything other than a cracker with Peanut Butter, I just can't swallow it. I don't know if its all in my mind or what. I'm really worried because in a day I probably eat 6 crackers..anyone. Else having problems eating?

Just because you have been cleared to eat anything doesn't mean you have to do it, or rush it.

Take your time. Introduce foods slowly. Nobody says you have to eat a Subway sandwich instead of drinking a Protein Shake or having cottage cheese. Your body may just be telling you its not ready to jump into the deep end.

I definitely have had to take it slow. And keep some wetness to what I eat, or it's no fun going down. I'm about six weeks out.

I haven't tried anything like subway.. I've tried chicken salad, sweet potatoes, hamburger mushed up, tuna salad, pretty much what was on the soft foods..I haven't rushed to eat anything heavy I just can't eat.

I'm so nervous about the fact that in not getting in a lot of Protein... Only what's in the Peanut Butter.

You may not be physically ready to advance to solid foods yet. I was still on full liquids at 7 weeks post-op, because I had problems eating pureed foods when I was originally advanced, roughly 4 weeks post-op. After those additional 3 weeks on full liquids, I was able to progress quite easily. If you're not getting enough Protein, I would suggest you stop eating crackers (which have NO Protein value), and go back to focusing on consuming high-protein items...even if its just Protein shakes. You need to make sure you get what your body needs, and at 5 weeks post-op, you're really still healing from your surgery, and protein, and fluids, need to be your primary concern. If moving back to full liquids doesn't appeal to you, and you're truly concerned about not being able to swallow things, give your surgeon a call, and see what he/she has to suggest.

All the best,

Laura

Have you tried shakes or other clear Protein Drinks? I personally have trouble tolerating them but a lot of people don't seem to. There's also the unflavored Protein Powder that you can mix in liquids. No idea if you're a fan of tuna or not, but I really like the Sunkist Sweet & Spicy tuna with about a teaspoon of mayo in it. It's got like 100 calories and 19 grams of Protein, IIRC.

Thanks, I was just really worried and it might be a good idea to do liquids again..the only reason I eat the crackers is because I put the Peanut Butter on them and I tolerate that pretty well.. I can not eat Peanut Butter by itself.

I'm only about 9 days post op so can't give you too much advice... but I'd like to share information on a product is called ProteinBlitz it's probably like a Powerade or Gatorade drink, however it has 30 grams of Protein in a 20 ounce bottle. That might be another option for you to get some more Protein in... at least 1 bottle per day.

I got mines at a place called the Vitamin Shoppe... I'm sure you can look this product up online and figure out where else they might sell it somewhere in your town... I think they cost about 2.50 each. Good Luck!!!

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
