What Am I Doing Wrong?

Recommended Posts

BTW some people eat regular food after this surgery and some people are on a staged diet of liquids, purees and then soft foods. I could not imagine eating real food right after this surgery. I couldn't eat my first egg until week six and then I didn't eat one again until 4 or 5 months out because Soup was just better. I would say try another week on liquids/protien drinks.< /p>

I want to try the soup....did any specific soup work for you early on? And when did you start soup? Thanks!!!

what kind of Soup? How did you prepare it? Thank you!!!!

I am not partial to can soup. I got viloently ill in 2003 from canned soup, and I will never eat it again.

I buy the Soups that are in the deli section of the grocery store. They are more expensive, but the shelf life is shorter. I would wait until they were buy one get one. Then I just throw it in a blender and voila...soup puree. I blended it really well. I would heat it up first. I basically did that to all the soups I liked. Then when the time came I finally started eating the soup regularly, but that was 5 to 6 weeks out. Then maybe at month 3 is when I tried tuna. But it didn't sit well with me so I stuck with soups...as you can see I love soup! I still love soup!

Great! It feels so good when it doesn't make you feel sick! That is a good sign! :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
