How Far Out Before You Can Eat A Little Of Anything?

Recommended Posts

I am five weeks post op and wondering... Will I ever be able to have just a taste of anything I want? Sign me: Seriously mourning food... :(

8 weeks for me. Some go 12. Some far less.

Healing is of primary importance.

My surgeon told me that at 8 weeks out, your stomach is only back to 50% of its normal, healthy strength or wellness. You don't want to compromise that.

I'm still not eating salad, fresh fruit or vegetables, steak, corn, rice, spicy foods...anything that is very dense or hard. If it is softish then I try a little taste to see if it is going to be ok.

I started experimenting at 5 weeks with just about anything. Granted I only took one bite and waited around 10 minutes to see if my body was going to refuse it or not. I was cleared to eat food at 5 weeks. It's so crazy how different doctors opinions are. But that was my experience. Good luck! Oh- and I eat anything right now except salads and uncooked veggies- body has a hard time with those foods still.

If it's something I really, really want? I'll try it within reason. Like when we had our Thanksgiving potluck at work, I had a 1" square of pumpkin pie and it was delicious :D My new rule is just to really carefully moderate anything. Take a bite and chew it until it's pasty and then I'm good to go.

I'm 7 weeks but have been eating regular food as of 6 weeks. Although I started trying things a week before that. I've tried almost everything and have had no issues at all. But my surgery and recovery have been very Uneventful. I've lost 50 lbs as of today so clearly I'm not affecting my lose

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
