Everytime I see a notification for this thread I get anxious, but I can't unfollow.

I must be a sadist.

Who me? *looks even more innocent*

Did I mention that I think everyone should have to tell everyone that they ever meet that they've been sleeved?

I think you should also have to stop people in the street to tell them and take out a small ad in your local paper.

*sits back and watches*

Too fun-eee...

Lying= "Did you have weight loss surgery" and you answer "no.

Not lying= "What have you done to lose weight?" and you answer "I exercise, eat Protein first and have cut way back on carbs and fat."

If someone is considering weight loss options, They don't have to look. Dry far to get info in surgical options. I'm not sleeved yet, but if someone asks me point blank if I had surgery, my response will be, "Wow, that's a very personal question." Kinda like when waitresses ask me if I had IVF. yes, that has happened more than once. (two mom family with 4 little boys)

I decided early on to just answer honestly when asked. I am not passing out pamphlets on the street, but I do consider myself an advocate. Because I was self pay I also realize not everyone can afford the expense. I was one of the lucky ones who carried weight well, so I don't think people are expecting the " I had surgery" answer when they ask. I think they are expecting to hear WW or that horrible hormone fad diet. I am a teacher so there is always someone on some diet. I do wonder about the whispers behind my back, but what ever. Head held high, it eliminates any extra chins.

This is such an interesting conversation.

Why lie? What is a lie?

I have generally, with most people immediately in my life (family, close to moderate friends, work collegues) I have been honest with, they all know about the surgery.

If I run into people in the street, ie my mum said something to a lady in a store about me loosing 150 pounds, and she was life how. The surgery was not something i wanted to get into, so I said watching my food and exercise, both true, I worked my butt off, but obviously the sleeve helps with the food.

I have been dating and occasionally some guy will notice the small amount of food i consume and ask about it. I was initially honest about loosing the weight, but then the guys were never to be seen again...so now I just say I eat very little, do the whole 6 small meals a day...also not entirely a lie just not the whole story. When one sticks around long enough I will be honest with them about t he whole thing...

But really everyone is different, I judge who I tell what based on how I am feeling and how well I know the person.

Just my 2c.

Really? Guys disappear after you tell them "the truth?" How shallow is that. It is unfortunate you have to omit part of who you are.

A lot of people see it negatively. Also, a lot of men don't want a fattie. If you're a fattie once, you can be one again. Kind of damaged goods thinkibg.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
