Why Lie?!?!

Recommended Posts

For the record just in case anyone out there is listening still... or cares.....

We all have different ideas on how will handle people asking questions after we lose the weight.

And everyone is right in what they chose to do.

I am not one one "side" or the other. In fact for me it just really depends on the day, the situation or how I feel (safe, chatty, shy) as to whether I talk about "it" or not.

The problem I see here is basic really, people say things like "this is the way I do it and I feel my way is best and there must be some problem with those people doing it the other way"

It's all about tact when stating your opinion..

Write what you feel but leave out the part about other people being this way or that way, because rest assured your going to offend someone. Then they are going to say something and then you will most likely be offended too.

Does this make sense?

Laura

I never lie. Most people say why would you need to do that. I just say because I did. I wear my choices like a badge of honor. Why be embarrassed. Or ashamed. I live when people say I'm taking the easy way out. I look at them and say if you think surgery and a risk of complications is easy, your real ignorant. When people ask why I was out if work for four days I tell them my stomach and I didn't see eye to eye so u got rid if it.

This is why some of us disagree. We are not embarrassed, ashamed, liars, vain, or bitchy.. Yet, because we make the choice to keep our business private we are called names? We don't say anything wrong on here, other than try to make others understand our feelings about being private... Sheesh!

I was the first one to be embarrassed telling my boss about it. But when I woke up in recovery I was happy and proud of what I chose to do. So I just made the statement that I posted. Never meant to piss anyone off.

Everyone is diff and how we handle situations are diff also. I for one am very open about my wls and eagerly tell others when asked. I did this for me and no one else. Do I get the looks? Do they say its the easy way out behind my back? Why sure, lots do but I dont care. They dont walk in my shoes nor do I in there's. I did this to be healthier and feel better. But there are negative people out there and all they want to do is rain on others parade. Lie? Not something I would chose to do but their are many ways to word things without lying about wls if you didn't want others to know.

Dang, I just spent way more time than I meant to reading this whole thread. I appreciate all the viewpoints (and some of you are a riot!)

I have not been sleeved yet and I realized I have no idea how I will respond to questions. It might depend on my mood that day and it will really depend on who's asking and why.

There are some people I would be tempted to tell that I lost weight 'cuz my doc changed my meds :P (for real, I've known some folks who lost a bunch of weight that way).

But seriously, I think if things go well, I will be more likely to disclose than if it becomes a struggle. After all the research and dithering I've done to get to this place, I would not want anyone else to take the decision lightly. So we'll just see.

For background, the only two people I know of for sure that had WLS were rather unstable so that was not encouraging. I'm very confident in my decision now in spite of some negative reactions from family members.

Thanks all, and good night!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
