So tonight I had my first couple of bites of solid food , pizza .i thought instead of pureeing it I would just chew it really well and then swallow ( I'm 14 days out of surgery ) I had four bites then I was full . But it feels like its sliding up and down and I don't know wether or not to make myself sick or ride it out . It honestly feels like concrete in my chest . Has this happened to u ? What fixed it?

That's a real difficult choice for a 1st solid food. Most seem to have trouble with any bread products early on including pizza dough. I'm about 3 weeks out and have been sticking to regular Protein like fish, chicken and even light sodium ham. All those have been okay. I'm going to wait for a long time before I try pizza given the bread issues I keep reading about on this board.

Sounds like you are experiencing a case of the slimes. Only time will help. Are you taking an anti-acid such as Prilosec or Prevacid? They might help but other than that take it slow when adding solid foods! pizza was probably not the best choice you could have made!

I'm six weeks out and as of about week five I have been able to eat without experiencing pain. I really think the pain is from all the healing that is going on on the inside...when you take in food (and for me even liquids) it starts your stomach working which brings on the pain. The good news is it really does get better.

Also, some of the things you enjoyed before may not be so great from now on.

I have read about a LOT of people not being able to tolerate bread anymore.

The slimes are what happens when you eat too much, to quickly, or something your body just can't handle. Basically your mouth will produce a ton of saliva (just like it does right before you vomit) and this will go on for a while. Some people do throw up but it's only the clear saliva.

You will feel like you've swallowed a Rick and that it is sitting right below your neck. I had this one night and I never want to get it again!

I have started taking Prilosec and that is really helping with that stuck feeling.

scale it back, go back to basics (full liquids) for a couple of days to get over the pizza and then start slowly adding new foods in again but make sure they are high Protein, low carb options.

I actually never really liked bread before , I never used to eat it much .

I am just so disappointed in myself all those negative thoughts are creeping in about not being able to stick to anything and this is another " weight loss " thing I will fail at :( .

It's so hard cooking for a family of six night after night when you can't eat any of it or even taste it while your cooking it to make sure you got the flavor right . Feel like a big fat failure and I'm having a sook .

Week 2 - Week 4 or 5 were not easy at all. I had bouts of depression, mourning food, guilt, self blame, fear, panic .... on and on. It was much more emotional than I would ever have imagined. I had some butt kicking talks with myself and some pep talks, too. Taking a walk at the park always helped. I did do some tiny cheats along the way. A few Goldfish crackers, a taste of some pie, but nothing crazy. Keeping up with my food in myfitnesspal.com helped me a lot.

It DOES get a lot better. A whole lot. And make sure you are taking your PPI and drinking enough liquid. I can't stand drinking Water so I drink a lot of hot tea and sugar free drink mixes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
