Seriously Now, What Do I Need Nut For?

Recommended Posts

Hello there everyone!

Today my husband asked me this question, "how else can a NUT help you?"... I currently am overseas and will be here for the next 6 months, One trip to the NUT here would cost 100$ per visit, and to be honest... i had the surgery self pay and i have no more hidden money for such expenses.

I am two weeks out and my doctor asked me to see a NUT after one months post surgery, well I CANT AFFORD IT!!

Please someone tell me how could she help me, and what would i go to her for... I already eat very healthy cut off sodas breads and sweets, i barely eat since i feel full very fast, what else do i need her for?

What you really need is a long term plan. If you've already been given one from you past visits with your NUT then you probably don't need to go again. That is, as long as you stick to the plan you were given.

My NUT gave me everything in writing. I have a written plan for each phase and a list of all Vitamins and supplements I should be taking. I'm seeing her again so she can check on my progress but those visits were included in the cost of my surgery.

thank you for your reply! my NUT only gave me what to eat one month after surgery and wants me to go again after the month is over ( they seek to make money) but i found this booklet http://www.peachtree...ient-Manual.pdf and on page 25 they tell me what is allowed and not allowed for a lifetime after gastric sleeve so i still dont think she will be much more help :( ugh so confused dont want to waste more money!

There are many of us "self payers" that do this without a NUT. As long as you do your research (which it looks like you have), you can do this without a NUT. Some people are more comfortable having someone who can guide them along the way. But what you will find is there are a lot of NUTS out there and a lot of them give very different advice. This board is a great place to find out what others are doing and get great advice and answers to questions. Good luck on your journey!!

Sorry for the upside down pic. These are lists my nutritionist gave me that I would have to follow 4-6 weeks after surgery.

I had my surgery in Mexico and received a very detailed nutrition plan. They are available to me via email/phone but if you are dedicated and follow your plan you should be fine. Just follow up with bloodwork at your PCP to make sure all of your levels are okay. I don't think you need to waste your money on a NUT. As others have said you can find lots of information here and even others eating programs, so you can pick and choose.

I think the only time I ever felt my NUT was beneficial to me was when I went from eating mushies back to solids. Other than that, most of what she tells me are things I already know from lots and lots of extensive reading on nutrition and healthy eating because I've been passionate about this topic all my life, especially after I was diagnosed with PCOS.

I say, that if you research, use the folks information on this site, and just remember the basics of 60-80 grams protien, 48-60 oz of Water, and do your best to stay away from white flour, you'll be golden!

Good luck on your adventure overseas and with your sleeve!!

Thank you for your reply, and congrats on your surgery, Now am convinced that having a NUT is not the only way i can lose weight, am doing research too and hope it helps.

Good luck losing weight

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
