Hi, I'm New And Have One Simple Question

Recommended Posts

How do you know you are ready to have the surgery?

Are all the doubts and nervousness normal? I wonder if I will be able to make it, you know the liquid diet and the after diet that follows up.... I keep doubting myself, my willpower, is this normal?

I even thought about backing out at preop when my surgeon was hours behind schedule. Hang in there - it's a journey but the start of a new life. Good luck.

You're very normal. If you didn't have the doubts and questions, I'd think you weren't ready. VSG saved my life and I knew I didn't have a choice except to have the surgery, but I still went through weeks of "should I?" and "shouldn't I?" questions.

You'll have (or are having) an approval process and lots of medical tests to do before hand, so you've got time to think things through. If I had known how much of a positive difference WLS would make in my life, I'd have done it 10 years earlier! :)

I seriously almost jumped off the table pre-op.... I had my surgery last Tuesday. I have now lost 20lbs in 2 weeks. I wouldn't change it for a thing!

Thank you guys... I'm so worry because unlike so many other people I've seen around, I don't feel this happiness and motivations, n fact, I feel so weak. That's why I'm thinking about this. Because I can't continue like this anymore. I'm sick and tired of this depression due to obesity :( and I feel like at this point I have nothing to lose

I think I knew I wanted to have it when I decided that living was more important than eating.

Foul!!! I see THREE question marks there! :P

Since I've lost about 15# since I started all this pre-op stuff, my wife thinks i don't need it any more. I'm ignoring her. I'm ready. Get me on the table, I might be a blubbering idiot, but for now, I'm good! ^_^

My surgery date is 12/12/12. And I feel like you... a bit unsure how I'll handle it. I can say honestly I know I'm ready because 10 or even 5 years ago it would have been about "looks" now I am dedicated to be healthier and to feel better for myself, to be able to enjoy the next 30-40 years (i'll be 50 in July).... I'm creating "Pam 5.0" lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
