giggles012980 12 Posted November 21, 2012 Just curious how everyone else feels about Thanksgiving dinner. This is my 1st real holiday gathering since surgery & I'm so used to over indulgence I'm not sure how dinner will go. Plus I'm eating @ my inlaws & none of them know about my sleeve! Do I load my plate & just pretend to pick? I'm just not comfortable with them knowing (Very judgmental). Any suggestions???
UTGal99 327 Posted November 21, 2012 How far out are you?
Lissa 2,631 Posted November 21, 2012 I don't worry about my "diet" on holidays. I eat whatever I want, which means that I'll go around the table and put a small spoon of anything that looks good on my plate and I eat what I want/can. I'm very open about my surgery, but, if you're not and someone asks about your small servings, just smile and tell them that you're dieting. At 8 months out, your weight loss should be very visible to everyone around you, so they'll believe you. 1 UTGal99 reacted to this
Eat That Frog 53 Posted November 21, 2012 I am going to eat mainly turkey and a bite or 2 of everything else. I think people are more likely to question why you only put a small amount on your plate than why you didn't clean your plate. As Lissa said, if quetioned tell them you are dieting, smile and then change the subject. Good luck with the in-laws!
UTGal99 327 Posted November 21, 2012 Since none of them know about your sleeve I would suggest that you put a small amount of each item on a normal size plate. Since you are eight months out I am sure they have noticed your weight loss and probably won't think a thing about the smaller portions. Although I completely understand not feeling comfortable telling them about the surgery - I wouldn't tell my in-laws either! In order to cover yourself if they ask just say that you are trying really hard to keep your portions small and not overindulge like you used to. Also, another perk to the sleeve is that you can't eat that much in one sitting but in 2-3 hours you can go back for seconds -- just be sensible about it. Good Luck! How much have you lost in the 8 months?
giggles012980 12 Posted November 21, 2012 I was 248 pre surgery currently 176 so about 72#. When they ask I just say that I eat less & workout more. Which is not a lie! I'm at a stall currently...although I have found wine to be my friend! So I'm drinking some extra calories...and those darn girlscouts...I can eat 3 thin mints lol! Better then the whole pack I suppose!!! 1 UTGal99 reacted to this
