LivinADream 13 Posted November 20, 2012 Hey everyone...looking fit singe thoughts from everyone. Why do they tell us not to drink from a straw? Even if it's just Water?
southernchic01 18 Posted November 20, 2012 Drinking from a straw creates air bubbles in your new tummy, wich can cause different things to go on. 1. It can make you feel full, therefore you don't get the nutrients from what food you do eat. 2. It can cause gas pains...and trust me you don't want that 3. The air pockets that it does create can cause discomfort because those air pockets stretch your new stomach pouch. That is just a few of the main reasons. I hope that helps you! Butterthebean 8,146 Posted November 20, 2012 Those are the reasons, but I've found none of them to be true personally. I think it's one of those rules they throw out there because they are trying to idiot proof our recovery. They know somewhere, someone is going to suck too much air through a straw and perforate their sleeve. Once your sleeve is healed, no amount of straw drinking is going to do anything but make you belch. 4 COnative, funkeechiggen, spieldose and 1 other reacted to this

Nicolanz 1,484 Posted November 21, 2012 I have a plastic water bottle with a straw and have drank from that since surgery. No problems.
joyful noise 101 Posted November 22, 2012 My nut said to try and see what happens. I started with those stirrer/straws and now use regular straws - still sipping though and no problems.
delta_girl 931 Posted November 22, 2012 I never drank with straws before, unless I was at a restaurant. Now I use them all of the time. It makes drinking a lot much easier for me. I don't seem to have any trouble with extra air. 1 LivinADream reacted to this
