Diet tips from those "NOT" in the know.

Spill it...What are some of the most ridiculous diet tips and solutions you've ever rcvd?

  • Tape worm in pill form! A freakin' parasite! That's your "Honey, you have such a pretty face" advice? Rather than suggesting something like going for a walk together...you'd rather see me with a Tape Worm thriving in my intestines!!? Don't worry I'll reciprocate the kind advice... "Yes, this coffee does taste funny. It's a special blend and is even more delicious followed by an insecticidale chaser."

Enjoy..."come again!"

I was doing a weight loss program at a chicago hospital. I was following a 1200kcal diet but had only lost 2 pounds in a week. The doctor had bigger expectations so he told me "Just don't eat! You have got to stop eating. You will see your weight drop if you just stop eating"

Ok, maybe he ment 'don't overeat' but the way he phrased it, I was PISSED and wrote a complaint.

I did not sign up for that kind of treatment.

Other than that, I have been told not to eat for 3 days to shrink my stomach, drink lots of vinegar, smoke, etc. Just ridiculus stuff. None of it healthy.

I was told that if I did a 600 cal diet and took Water pills I would lose weight. Then there is the grapefruit diet, it is eating 1/2 a grapefruit before each meal, the acid helps to speed digestion. The rice diet, you eat 1 cup of rice for each meal for a week, then you eat 1 cup rice and 1/4 cup veggies for a week, then 1 cup rice, 1/4 furit for Breakfast 1/4 cup veggies for lunch and 4 oz chicken for dinner. So you are eating 3 cups of rice a day, how many carbs would that be???? For the first 2 weeks you are eating zero protien, and a major medical school wrote this book. It's the Duke Rice Diet. ~Mandy

My favorite is: "Can't you just eat less and exercise more?"

DUH! If that worked I wouldn't need the band!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
