5 Days In The Hospital And Im Finally Home !

Recommended Posts

I had my revision surgery on 11-14-2012 after surgery they told me the band removal went fine and they were able to repair a hiatal hernia , that was a surprise to them ( and me ) and sleeve me in one procedure. I was SO relieved to have had it done in once procedure. The day after surgery I started throwing up Water and unable to keep it down . After a couple more tried they ordered an EGD for me . They told me if the scope went through easily then and showed no obstructions I should be fine and not need another surgery , but if it did not I could have excess scar tissue from the band and I could need another surgery . WHAT !! Yikes . So they did it and it showed no obstruction some swelling around the band area ( where the band was ) they told me to take liquids slow . For several days I was still throwing up just water, in fact it freaked me out because it looked like I was throwing up some blood as well. Finally around day 3 or so the water was staying down . So finally I was able to go home today . NOT an easy process that's for sure , but I am glad its over. The doc told me to progress my liquids slowly , as long as I was keeping liquids down I was fine , the minute i started if i did throwing up liquids I needed to come back . But to just take it slow . So here goes ! Cross your fingers everything stays down now .

Good luck! I'm having a revision from band to sleeve in December. May I ask why you had your lapband removed and revised to the sleeve?

Thanks y'all. Dark, I had my band in 2006 , I Lost 125 pounds got down to 125 pounds ... the year mark i slipped my band , then slipped it again , The doc told me around year 3 or so if i had it filled again it would close off the opening to my stomach there was so much scar tissue build up. Slowly over the last few years it got worse and worse and the last several months solid foods cause me severe pain to eat. I lived on liquids for hte most part for the last 6 months.

Here is a post from my blog that explains it in more detail

Thank you. :)

I had lots of problems with my band too. First band I had eroded. The second was working great and then the port flipped and the tube starting pushing out on my skin. I had a port revision to fix that and then shortly after that it slipped. So, now I'm going with the sleeve. I wish the sleeve would have been available when my first band failed.

the sleeve was " just coming out " as WLS when i had my band, I went with the " least invasive " HAHAH what a joke tha turned out to be . I had a lot of swelling from where the band came from which is why im still not able to eat right . They assure me it will get better. I was hoping to at least try mashed potatoes tomorrow but after throwing up a Protein Shake last night , im back to Clear Liquids, its a 1 step forward 2 steps back thing for me right now.

Good luck with the surgery , Im sure you will do great.

On the plus sidei have lost 10 lbs in 7 days !

10 lbs in 7 days is nice but not really healthy, unfortunately. And not a comfortable way to do it either.

The sleeve was made available less than a year after I had my second band installed. But I didn't know it at the time or I might have waited. Oh well, no turning back time. I'm just going to go forward with the sleeve and hope for the best! :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
