Help Surgery Day, Will This Matter?

Recommended Posts

Today is surgery day and I just saw where I was supposed to stop all Vitamins, it such a habit I took them through yesterday. I take vit. D, flintsones chewable and the calcium citrate.

I thought we were supposed to keep taking them due to liquid only diet. Have I messed up and will they cancel because of this??

Thanks

I don't think so. I was just told to stop all medications a week before. They never mentioned Vitamins. And I was able to one egg the day before surgery.

I wasn't mention to stop Vitamins either. only medications. but I think you would be told to stop vitamins after surgery for a little while.

at least my surgeon stop me for a week and after that I started again.

I only had to stop certain medications and pills (ibuprofen, birth control). I took my Vitamins up until the day before surgery. No problems!

Thank you, thank you!!! I was thinking about all the hard work I have done to get here and was frustrated that it might be cancelled. The Protein shakes have Vitamins in them, so I thought it would be okay. My surgery is at 12:40 today, I am so ready to get this done!

Thanks for all the support here! I will update as soon as I can!

I know the feeling of wanting to get it done. I was almost paranoid some strange fluke would end up stopping it. I even worried that the doctor would get sick and have to reschedule. Let all that go. Prayers for you. You will do great. I am 11 days out and already feeling so much better than I did before surgery. First few days are a little rough, but nothing you can't stand. Enjoy your pain meds and take them every 4 hours whether you feel like you need them or not for the first few days. You got this!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
