Hi...I am new to this site and wanted to introduce myself. I am a 33 year old female. I am married to a wonderful man for 10 years now. Current weight of 340. We don't have any children, and of course would love to have one, but with the obesity its has become difficult to get preg. I have been doing some research on WLS. I was seriously considering the gastric bypass..But after reading about this lap band thing, I am leaning more toward that. For one I hear it is safer, lot less complications..The only thing that I dont like is I hear it takes longer to lose the weight with the lap band. I am trying to get it through our insurance, but if that is not possible, I thought about self paying. I hear it is cheaper in Mexico..Here where I live I found out it would cost about 18,000 to have the lap band. Does anyone know about what it would cost in Mexico? And what about refills after? Any info would be helpful. Thanks

I saw my whopping insurance bill recently $20K, thank God for my insurance. Self pay in Mexico, has it's ranges so I have been told. My best friend was banded in Mexico, for $8K; but I have heard on this site that others have paid $3500K to $8K. All the information that you want or need can be found on the net. Good luck.

Kajungal I do not know where you are from but I am from the New Orleans area and I found Dr. French at the Surgical Weightloss clinic in Metarie and they charge $12,900. They also do financing and that price includes a year of fills and office visits. I thought it was pretty fair.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
