One time I made the mistake of eating one of those Atkin's low carb candy bars, they have lots of sugar alcohol in them and it had me running to the bathroom the whole night. Maybe try one of those. If I ever get backed up I will eat one of those. Also I use what thing called a "squatty potty". It lifts your knees up really high and it helps you poop in a more natural position. My husband thinks I'm crazy for using it but my butt is thankful :)

When we have bathroom issues at my house I make a batch of steel cut oats. You can get them at most grocery stores these days and you cook them on the stove top. They are amazing. My cousin told me they have changed her life! Lol. I read a long time ago that we should have "satisfying bowel movements". I didn't get what they meant until we started with the steel cut oats! Hope you find them helpful!

I take two fiber gummies and 800 mg magnesium every day. The magnesium is a supplement you can find at the grocery or pharmacy. I started with 400 mg magnesium, but 800 is what works for me. I no longer have any issues with Constipation.< /p>

Thanks guys for your suggestions, I wrote them all down! I ended up going the other day, I took 3 dulcolax every night for 3 nights...but it got the job done and I finally felt so much better. Just don't want to become laxative dependent so i am def. going to try these.

PS-squatty potty?? That is hilarious, i have never heard of that, I am going to google it. Lord knows I could use all the help I can in the br...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
