i had my surgery on june 5th, and was cleared for food the friday before father's day which was around june 17ish. i actually had a bit of grilled porkchop. mmmmmmm the best food you ever eat will be the first food you eat after the liquied diet. chew slow and long and savor every tiny bite. :)

I don't go on to solid foods for 3 months!!!

Stage 1 liquid only diet up til 10 days

Stage 2 smooth liquid diet eg Soups etc up til 28 days

Stage 3 puréed food up til 3 months

Then I'm allowed to slowly add in hard foods

What did your doctor have to check to clear you? I have my two week visit in a week. I'm only eight days out, but I have tried a few mushy foods already and they were fine. Did he ask you if you'd tried anything, and how it went? Did they do another xray to make sure there were no leaks?

It works totally different where I am. I'm across in Scotlanad. They just send you home with a diet plan on what you can eat at what stage and let you get on with it. I was sleeved on the 7th of this month and don't even see a nut again until the 4th December. I am being very careful and sticking to it. Xx

I was cleared after 2 weeks as well. Different doctors have different programs.

My doctor and nut have a 6 week plan, but told me that when I got to puree (where I am right now) I can go ahead and proceed as I feel comfortable. I have eaten chicken, tuna, and pork loin and haven't had any problems. I actually haven't had any problems with anything except for Cream of Wheat. Other than that, I have had an amazingly easy experience!

I got cleared after 2 weeks too....it makes me a little nervous - just ate some chili and my tummy feels like it's going to explode....so I think this sleeve thing is working

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
