One Week Post-Op Questions

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved exactly one week ago 11/12 and per my past posts last week, it was a difficult four days or so. Then it miraculously started getting better. I was on Clear Liquids for the first week - and now today I was to move onto "full liquids" smooth yogurts; puddings; cream Soups. So I get up this am with a swing in my step cuz I can have fat free cream of cheese soup! I take four spoonfuls and glee washes over my face. And that's where it stopped.........pain and discomfort when it hits the tummy. I now know where food enters the stomach - and I never even went to med school. So I wait and try again and bam it happens again.

So, what's up with this? Any suggestions, hints etc...am I eating wrong? It has taken me 2 hours to eat this mug of Soup. There is NO WAY I can start timing my Water between my "meals" like they want me to. If I were to do this, I would never drink water today.

Yes it hurts when it hits your stomach, it's swollen and trying to heal that's why you are on puréed foods. I know you have heard this before but really ..... Take .... Tiny .... Sips..... I can't stress that enough. And when you start to eat .... Take ..... Tiny ..... Bites! And wait between sips and bites wait wait wait. This is the answer to your questions slow and tiny!!

Are you using a small spoon? I used a demitasse spoon and a baby spoon. Wait a minute between each bite. Use a clock with a second hand or a timer to help. How much in the mug? I only ate 1/2 cup of yogurt or Soup at a time during week 2 and 3. It took me about 1/2 hour.

I was definitely overambitious today. It is so hard to eat little bites that slowly but I will try try again. And I think I need to buy a baby spoon. So much learn! thanks

I got sleeved the same day as you. I tried to eat a spoonful of chicken salad after day 5 because liquids were hurting my stomach and i couldn't stomach them. So I figured if I could just get a spoonful of chicken salad down then that would maybe make up for all the nutrients I wasn't getting. Its day 8 out now and I feel great. My stomach hurts a tiny bit after the first thing I swallow, but after that initial one, I'm fine. I've dabbled in softfoods already, with no problem. I'm doing liquids as my main sustenance because I don't want to overdue it or cause a leak, but I really think I could go to the next stage full on right now. Long story short - it gets better. I guess I was just one of the lucky ones that don't get much pain.
