Rh Negative Anyone?

Recommended Posts

I'm Rh negative and the surgeon kind of, while reading my medical history, pointed it out. I asked if that was an issue and he said that I might lose a lot of blood because of it. :/ just wondering if anyone else has this and has gone through surgery. How did the surgery go?

My WLS date is Nov. 28th.

Hi I am also rh- and o+ blood type. I had surgery on Oct 20 in Mexico, I had no problems what so ever. I believe rh factors are important when your pregnant. I used to have a needle when I was expecting due to the rh factoe for the baby. never heard of excess bleeding and I've had a few surgeries.

Wow, I just did a Google search RH NEGATIVE BLOOD LOSS and came up dry, not being a health care professional I am certainly NOT and expert but this does not sound valid to me. Any one else chime in?

Well thank God! I think the surgeon was just trying to scare me out of the bypass and it worked... I'm now getting the sleeve. I was just still concerned about the Rh-

Thanks everyone!!

I am Rh- and had no problems with any of the 3 surgeries I have had in my life. Also, no one has ever mentioned it would cause any issues with blood loss. The only thing I have ever been told is it could cause some issues with pregnancy if the baby is positive like buffygirl mentioned.

I am o negative too. I don't think this is a concern. I have had two c sections and two other surgeries in various states and countries, and none of my doctors ever mentioned complications other than if the baby was positive.

I have O- blood and have never heard of this. The only problem with negative blood that I know if is if you have children with a positive blood father. The problem usually happens on the third child They now have a shot they give the mother that takes care of this problem. I am familiar with the problem because my grandmother had negative blood and her third child was born with this blood defect and died at 9 months old. At that time, they did not have a shot to fix the problem.

I am a lab tech and do testing on blood and blood products and being negative just means u don't have rh. It has nothing to do with blood loss and yes can cause problems during pregnancy if the baby is pos because you antibodies see the pos as foreign and want to attack it ...that is why negative moms should get a rhogam shot to prevent this. The only other time its a problem would be no different than any other blood transfusion where the types are not matched properly and similarly ur antibodies would attack the foreign blood. There is extensive done before units of blood are issued and this should never happen. Bottom line is that rh - is just part of ur blood type

I am also RH- and have had many surgeries. This was never mentioned, other than it being an issue when I was pregnant.

Would have loved to have been there and put the doctor on the spot. Was he by any chance referring to rh negative blood not testing agglutinated to serum?

I am RH negative , doc never mentioned it nor has any of the other surgeons who have operated on me. Only issue for RH negative women can be with childbirth and the problem is not necessarily for the Mommy but for the baby if the baby is positive. I believe that is the issue anyway

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
