Feeling Sad Today

Recommended Posts

One of my church members has been diagnosed with leukemia and needs a bone marrow transplant. So today we had a drive to have people get tested to see if they were a match. i was all excited thinking that maybe i could be the match she was looking for. Well when i get there I unfortunately found out that I could not even be tested because of my weight and the fact that I am on a cpap. This totally sucks!!! what if I am actually a match for her but just because I'm fat we can't even find out. This is totally ridiculous!!! I cant wait until I have surgery. I have already been excluded from enough things in life just because of my weight.

That does seem crazy! I think it is amazing and very kind that you tried! We need more people like you in this world. Wishing you the best. :)

I can't believe that! I'm sorry, honey. Many people would not have even tried. God saw that you tried and that's what counts. Feel better knowing that

I've done the transfer (many many years ago for a little boy who unfortunately still lost his battle) and it's horribly hard on your body, hence the denial, but I'd like to encourage you, especially the OP to consider being tested when they are able if this is something they would do for a friend or a stranger. Im losing my best friend to luekemia. She is a very high priority on the donor list and has been for several years, but she is african american/hispanic. Both are classes where donations are significantly lower than white bone marrow donors sadly. Her mix makes it even more difficult for her :(

So if this lovely OP inspires you...consider asking your doctor to have you tested? It's free, and in the rare case that you might be a match for someone, it's a possible life saver!

Thanks iggy, I didn't even think about letting my doctor test me. I pray that your friend finds a donor.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
