Will I Be Completely Weak On So Little Fuel?

Recommended Posts

When I did the hcg diet, I felt super weak and faint, so much so that I had to have OJ and I didn't know if I'd make it to the fridge. For those Of you that don't know, hcg is a 500 calorie diet.(that I made it to day 6 on and no further, twice) It's virtually zero carb tho, maybe that's what did it. I just left the house with the kids and went to sonic for a bunch of French toast sticks. It made me feel so much better.

I supposedly have hypoglycemia and I'm wondering how the 300-500 calories after surgery are goin to do me. I wonder if I'll feel so weak and about to pass out again. it.

3-500 calories after sugery seems to be on the low side. Most that I have seen are around 1000 calories per day. I would probably mention hypoglycemia to your doctor and nutritionist so they can set you up with glucose testing and customize you diet to keep your blood sugar levels stable- maybe supplement with medication or spread your meals out through the day?

Honestly, the first couple of weeks after surgery my husband would ask what planet my mind just wandered off to as I starred blankly into space on occassion. Once I was able to get my recommended 600-800 calories along with liquids and protien in... my body balanced out. Pre-surgery, I also used to get, what I would call the "sugar shakes" and have to down a glass oj or a spoonful of honey. I find that the diet I follow now has never left me with that clammy, weak I might pass out feeling. I think my blood sugar is regulated to the point that I don't experience those spikes anymore. I typically eat 600-800 calories and limit my carbs to approx 40-60 per day, shooting for 70-80g of protien daily. Anyway that's been my experience and I have had great energy since about week 3, I'm about 4mths out now.

500 may sound low, but you will be eating 3 meals and 2 Snacks a day, or 5 very small meals. Not much time goes by between eating again.

My energy level is higher now than it was when I was eating 3,000+ calories a day.

I am hypoglycemic, 3 1/2 weeks post op and average 370 - 480 calories a day. Three meals, three snack, Multi-Vitamin, b-12. I have plenty of energy and sleep very well at night now. The only carbs I get are usually from the one cup of milk I have every night with my Protein Powder. Friend me on myfitnesspal if you'd like. I'm sure you'll be fine. Best wishes!

I'm a firefighter/paramedic which is a pretty physical job. I usually taken in between 400-800 calories ( depending on what kinds of activity we have during the day). I have never had a problem with lightheadedness. I'm constantly drinking Water or water with a touch of diet cranberry juice.

I'm 8 weeks post op.

1/3 diet cranberry juice and 3/4 water is one of my favorite drinks! I really don't miss soda at all.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
