Sweet Stuff- Bleh! All I Want Is Broth...

Recommended Posts

I read about other who said this pre op and I never thought I would happen to me. I've always loved sweets. So I'm pretty nauseated by the thought or sweet things now. Protein Powder, Jello, pudding, pops. All of it. Even some of my slightly sweet tasting soups- cream of mushroom (which isn't all that sweet but to me it was) they are really not appealing to me now. I made a pumpkin spice Protein Shake yesterday. I LOVED it. I drank t twice yesterday an today the thought of it makes me sick. I'm so scared I'm not going to get enough Protein in because literally all I want is chicken broth! Which is a clear liquid and I'm on full now. I know there is no nutritional value to it. What should I do?I have some grape Isopure I've yet to try. Thinking of drinking some of that with crystal light- rather forcing it down. Just because it seems less gross to me then then a thick creamy shake right now. Bleh.

Are you eating the Soups that have protein I them? That would be a good trade off to get your broth and protein in. MybariatricPantry sells quite a few different savory soy pls with 15-17 grams of protein per serving. I found savory to be better for my taste buds then sweet, but still enjoy the caramel chews and Oreo flavored Protein shakes too. It is such a blessing to be able to enjoy the savory flavors now. Before surgery, I didn't really taste anything and just ate and ate because not satisfied ( my theory anyways). Now I can taste and smell the most minute differences in foods. Sometimes it is overwhelming and is like seeing many splashes of bright and radiant colors.

I need to get some Soups with Protein. The ones I have are just regular cream soups in the can. I'm going to order some protein soups I'm just worried in the mean time. Trying to choke down Isopure now. Bleh it's not good!

I'm stull pre-op but I've been reading up on the different Protein brands... Unjury makes a chicken Soup flavor and an unflavored one... Maybe that would help? The only thing I did read was not to mix it in anything that was hotter than 140 degrees b/c the texture changes... Good luck! Would love to hear your findings!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
