Had Surgery 9/25... Still Cant Drink Certain Liquids

Recommended Posts

I started out fine after surgery but then I got thrush followed by esophagel thrush twice. Now I've noticed I cant drink much of anything. To be honest, I'm living on milk. Water and tea comes back up. All the juices and sports drinks taste way too sweet. What can I try now? I feel like I'm wasting away...

Hmmmmm. Sorry you are having trouble. Water can actually make me feel nauseous sometimes too. I am a little further out than you. Maybe try soy milk, coconut milk, almond milk, and maybe try coconut water- it's loaded with electrolytes. I personally drink by Blue Diamond Unsweetened Coconut/Almond Milk. I can't stand stuff that is too sweet either- gag! I wish you all the best - Hang in there!!!!

Wish I would've gotten the Band since its reversible.... at this point I don't want food or drink. Just to crawl in a hole and be left alone. My stomach is always queasy and nothing is what I'm looking for. :(

Hope you find something that works. I was sleeved on 9/20. I struggled with drinking too. This is what worked for me--I drank alot of Soup broth. I made Campbell's Soups with extra Water and then strained out the noodles. I made my own soup broth using Better than Broth. I also strained Progresso soups and added extra water.

I was sleeved 10/19 and I can't drink plain Water it makes me nauseous and juice is way to sweet but I find if I put some juice at least 1/2 and 1/2 with water and then add ice that melts into more water that I can drink all day. I make sure to get light juices like cranberry concord grape light it only has 50 cal per serving and no added sugar and because I am putting hardly any juice in my cup it ends up being 1 and a half serving at most throughout the day

My drs office received a letter asking when I will be back to work. I had an appt with them last week and was given another prescription to take for 2 weeks with a follow up on the 29th..... which i told my hr. Now why would they they ask for a date if he is unsure of what is causing the issues?

Make sure you are drinking your acid reducing meds.. They help ease the queasiness.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
