Post Op-- Not Good So Far

Recommended Posts

So I was sleeved 11/16. Woke up started walking& doing spirometer. At about 3 am BP tanked down to 70s/40s& got a 1 liter bolus. 2 hrs later tried to go to bathtoom&said I'm going to blackout' tried to lean back to bed. But somehow ended up on floor. Next thing I knew all my co-workers (yep i work here, no privacy for me)were lifting me back to bed. Blacked out again woke up in the middle of a code speed w/ HR in 150s& Bp down to 70s. Got 2 liters of fluid& 2 units of blood. Doc moved my gastrograffin swallow til today& said I might still be bleeding from staple line. Very weak now. sleeping a lot/too much. My drain dumping blood like 500 cc per day. I'm scared.

Had my sleeve done on 11/8, my blood pressure also dropped during the night. My hospital and nursing staff were "johnny on the spot" for me the entire time. Hang in there, it does get better. I was pumped so full of fluids when I got home I had gained 17 pounds in the hospital. I am now 10 days out from the surgery and doing amazing well. Only 1 bought of nausea (post ride home from hospital). Each day I feel better and stronger. Still sore, but find that the pain meds aren't needed anymore (unless I over do it). I have lost the 17 pounds plus 14 more since 11/8. It just feels so good.

Be sure to get up and move about, but also REST when your body tells you to. That's the key to success, learning to listen to your body and it's needs. Most of us have never done that.

I will pray for you, it will get better!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
