Bariatric Consult!

Recommended Posts

I had my first bariatric consult yesterday! They said it will probably be a month until I see the nutritionist for the first time (scheduling on Monday) And my testing (Egd, barium, etc) should be in January-February , psych visit will be scheduled by Friday of next week, and surgery by June... I was hoping for sooner... More like April-May...

But the process has started! I'm so excited!

I did the seminar in October. I saw the surgeons assistant yesterday. Good luck on a March date.

How many Nut visits do you have to do? I have to have 6 months of visits for my ins.

If I don't hear anything by Monday about my Nut appointment I will be calling ASAP. Also if no word about my psych visit by Friday I will be calling them also. I want this new "tool" ASAP!

Good luck to you too! And thanks for the advice!

Hi EllaJo

I will have a total of 2 Nut individual visits pre op. And pre op classes too are a total of 4 as well. The are group Nut Class. I'm in the 6 month program. I cancelled a few Nut appt. I could be further along. Found out that the pre op classes have to consecutive months. I'm found that but had gaps from the seminar in June to the Nut visit in Oct. I was getting pre op labs and saw the Nurse pract. So I sa

So,

I did delay things in the beginning because of my schedule. Once I complained to myNut about them also not following up they began calling me promptly. And the ball is rolling. Oh yea.

Sorry this is long but if I could help anyone else I will. Thanks good luck too.

Take all the space you need to explain :) it helps me and everyone else :)

My ins was upfront with telling me that there would be no more than 4 weeks between my 6 months of NUT visits... And my surgeons assistant was helpful with making sure I know it also. Don't want to miss anything!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
