need advice re weakness

Recommended Posts

My partner and I both had our bands done on the 6th of this month and have rigorously followed the diet they gave us. Straight liquids, then creamy liquids, now a little mashed potatoes. But we keep getting weaker. Yes, we're losing weight. We're both down about 18 pounds, but neither of us feel like we have any energy. We both take a Multi-Vitamin, drink the required amounts of Water, take a Calcium. Anyone have a guess what's going on?

You're still recovering from surgery, so being tired isn't very surprising. Are you getting enough Protein? Try to get in at least 60 - 70 grams of protein every day, because that's the one thing your body can't save and really needs enough of to operate effectively.

Then get some rest! You'll be feeling better day by day. Welcome to bandland!!

our doctor and nutritionist require 50 grams of Protein a day. and we have been getting that every day. maybe we should just go ahead and up it.

Sorry about feeling weak. I'm glad that you are getting a good amount of Protein and multivitamins/calcium. The time that I felt the most weak was when I was getting only 1,000 or less (probably 800). I felt very lethargic. Once I upped the calories, I started feeling better within days!!

Not sure where your calorie intake is....Hope you start feeling better.

Hi, Lanier...

I was very tired, too, about a month after I got my band. I went to my GP and she said that it was because my weight loss my blood pressure was lower than pre-band. I'm on a BP med and she cut in in half. I feel great now.

Have you had your BP checked since the band? Low pressure can make you feel tired.

Good luck and I hope you feel better.

Hi,

I had my lap banding done 5 months ago and with me being 21 i was quiet worried about going through with it.

I felt week and groggy for about a month after surgery and i was asking for advise also as i didnt think this was normal. i felt extremely tired and ill and i was very down thinking have i done the right thing.

But dont worry once your first month is over, You start to feel much better.

Now 5 months on ive only lost 1 stone but im very happy with that.

I must admit i dont stick to a strict diet but i have cut out many things that are hard to digest like bread, Red meat and try and eat things i dont have a problem with.

My food intake has gone down dramatically.

i dont feel deprived of food and im very glad i went through with it.

I would suggest it to anyone, I feel great!

If anyone wants to ask me anything about the lap banding please dont hesitate to ask.

Shelley x

Not sure why you both are weak, it could be the adjustment to losing the weight, your body goes through a stage of adjustments and the 1st for me was a loss of energy but after about 6 weeks I was so energetic I thoughtI had lost my mind. I also started taking B-12 as well as my Multi-Vitamin which my Dr recommended I take twice a day. Hopefully that might help if not go to the Dr and get checked out if its been longer than 6 weeks there might be something going on.

I always take Centrum (one a day) so - are you taking two of these kind of Multivitamin a day?

Thanks!

I felt very fatigued until my calorie intake increased from 800 calories per day to 1200 (at my 3 wk visit I graduated to the next level of eating). I almost instantly felt better. Maybe if you add up your calories to see where you are?

I also know that if I lose wt quickly, I feel kinda funky. Don't know if it's released toxins or what.

I would not be concerned with not having the energy, I know it is hard to just lay around but your body is trying to tell you something and it would probably be wise right now to listen.

Hope you feel better soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
