My dear hubby, who believes in sharing Everything has graciously shared his cold with me. I feel lousy, my throat hurts, etc. I am using ice chips, and on a liquid diet because I can hardly swallow. I am allergic to Tylenol and can not have NSAIDS anymore. Any ideas what I should take for my stuffy nose?

No fever yet, so I don't have to worry about a fever reducer at the moment.

I was told I could take cold medicine in the liquid form when I got sick at 5 weeks out. Well never again and when I saw my dr I told him he's lucky I didn't punch him lol. It burned so bad. I took liquid cold and flu by Tylenol. I switched to Tylenol cold and flu in pill form.

I know there are some company's that make the meds that have dissolvable strips but couldn't tell you who. Good luck. Hope you feel better soon

Buy Vick's nose spray! It's magic. I hope you feel better. :)

Benedryl in the pill form is safe at a week (those tiny pink tablets). It also comes in strips or liquids but you have to take so much that the sugar can be a problem for many (it is for me). Also, while NSIDS are not advised regularly, in a pinch they are ok. One of my prescriptions included a significant dose of Ibuprofin four times a day. Sometimes the good outweighs the possible bad but you don't want to do it constantly.

Thank you all, so much. I went with the Benadryl, Vicks nose spray and lots of gargling with antiseptic mouth wash.

Feel better than I have for those 3 days.

I checked with my surgeon's office and they said all Tylenol products are safe to take.

I have gotten a cold about 5 times since being sleeved (lower immunity?). So far I have taken nyquil, dayquil, tylonol and alcaselzer cold and flu. I think the dayquil is the best in overall being able to function. I took the alcaselzer cold and flu yesterday. It knocked me out for about 6 hours! LOL! Time to go back to dayquil.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
